How many times have you sent something back under warranty?

biddenden_sue (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 23rd August 2006, 15:49

Well, I`ve a sad story to tell. In March 2005 I bought a Liteon LVW-5006 DVD Recorder.

So far, it has been exchanged twice and is now going back for repair a second time, so that`s 4 times I have had to send it away in less than 18 months!

Admittedly, Liteon do give you a 2 year warranty - just as well really!

Has anyone had more trouble than that? It might make me feel a bit better!

I haven`t had as much, but I bought a brand new 19" Acer monitor. 2 months later no picture (light would show up, but it was orange). They took it in and kept it for about 3 months!!
They said they had fixed it within 3 weeks but whenever they delivered to my address, it was the wrong house (exact same house number and road, but about 2 miles down to a different area.
I couldn`t believe they didn`t tell me after the first or even second refusal! You would think something is going on if the person who sent their item in for repair was refusing to accept it.

Took a Digifusion box back after a couple of months when the external PSU died. They replaced it in the shop for another PSU and I kept the box because I had recordings on it. All in, about 15 minutes in the shop.

And I had to send a Linksys router away when it refused to boot correctly. They replaced it quite quickly with a new unit and had no more problems.

Guess I have been pretty lucky so far with purhcases, touch wood.

Well, I`ve got countless other gadgets in the house that haven`t let me down, so I guess it`s not so bad, with it just being the Liteon.

I just wish it would do what it is supposed to and stop going wrong! >:(

To make you feel happy.... :D

I had to replace my Lexmark printer 3 times in the first 12 months...

Our "Free" sky box from years back was replaced 3 times in the first 3 months....

To make you feel worse... :(

I have a electronics friend who wouldn`t tough Liteon with a barge pool... They make superb lasers.. infact is probably a Liteon laser in most DVD/CD readers... but they make shocking electronics.... which is probably why it keeps going wrong.....

How about a car?

The alarm was constantly playing up and after 6 months of bodges described as fixes, they admitted defeat. "Would you like us to replace the car with a new one sir?"

"Yes please"

I`m looking at some of the names mentioned here,in relation to repeated faults;

Lite-on :/
Lexmark :/
Digifusion :/

Anyone else see a possible lesson to be learned here ? ;)

Thanks for the input, guys. At least I now know I`m not alone.

I am aware that if I pulled the crap drive out of the Liteon myself and replaced it, the thing would work like a dream, but until the 2 year warranty has expired, I shall stubbornly keep sending it back for them to repair!

I wonder if they`ll keep going with the 2 year warranty, or if it will trail away in the future, before it puts them out of business! It`s extremely badly publicised now, so I should think most consumers don`t know it exists!

An LG VHS/Dvd Dual Recorder was taken back to Argos coz it packed up for some strange reason (just after I`d transferred all my VHS tapes to DVDs) ;)
