E BAY warning message, is this a real one?

Paull (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 15th June 2006, 10:23

I`ve been away for 10 days & this is one of the emails I have from ebay. I bought a battery from a trader just before I went, paid via card, via paypal. All went well & I have the Battery. Is the note below correct or should I ignore it? This is my first time on Ebay.

If they want you to followa a link then its more than likely to be a fake.

Simple way to find out is to log onto ebay - www.ebay.co.uk and if there are no alerts in your account page then it was a fake. Never go to ebay or Paypal through a link that has come from an email.

A quick way to tell if it`s fake or not is if they use your real name - eBay, Paypal don`t address you as "Dear Customer", etc, they always use your full name.

It`s fake!

I think ebay would probably be to employ someone with could speak the English to write their e-mails! ;)

FAKE........ ebay/paypal/any reputable company will NOT ask you to enter your details via an email. allways go to the site via your usual method/faves link.

THATS THE FIRST RULE OF EMAIL/INTERNET SECURITY

sorry about shouting, but it really is that simple.

Run the e-mail through a spellchecker. ;)

Most spoofs are written using poor grammar & incorrect spellings.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Yup, if it gives you a link to follow, then it`s definitely fake. I get about 5 or 6 of these e-mails every week - just forward them to: foops[at]moc.yaBe or foops[at].moc.lapyap
