The Jackal (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 2nd March 2006, 12:41

Just wondering if anyone knows about this kind of thing.

This is the plate i own.

and what it looks like with a bolt in the middle.

I am thinking of selling it but have no idea of what its worth or how to find out what its worth.

Cheers in advance

I sent an email once to cherished number plates or one of the other company`s that sell plates and told them I was thinking about selling my plate and how much would they give me for it. 2 years ago they offered me £900 for my plate, R8SSO, which I kindly turned down.

Give it a go and see what they say. There`s no harm done. As Jackal isn`t a common name I`d be surprised if you could retire off it!

As `Jackal` I would venture it worth sod all.
However,it can quite easily be spaced to spell `JACK` so it`s probably worth a fair bit.

about £800 i would guess... personally i would keep hold of it, as it means more to you,
i have my own also bought as a christmas present a few years ago by the wife & mother in law!

Also by sticking a `bolt in the middle` or by altering the spaces, font or size of letters you will be committing an offence...

Also more importantly to you... if your car is nicked then ANPR may not be able to read the plate so it may never be traced!

Having had a quick flick through some of the cherished numberplate sites, you could be looking at over a thousand,as there is a dearth of plates spelling `JACK`.

Even J1 CK is going for £500,and it`s pish compared with J4CK.

I only paid £250 from DVLA. I have another one currently on ebay M12 CDW or MR CDW which are my initials. That also cost £250

I`m astounded you got a plate that so clearly spells JACK for £250 !
They don`t have one single connotation of J4CK for sale now.
An amazing piece of business you`ve got there, well done !

You should have bought more ;)

Been looking at getting my initials for a while now. Various permutations seem to be pretty common and go for £250.

No chance of getting my name, though, as its got a bloody I in it...........

The wife`s was £250 ( ??? LOR ) - Her name is Lorraine.
Mine was £400,as it spells my surname and contains a 4,which is always handy for using as an `A` (not giving it for privacy / copying purposes 8) )

The laugh of it is,is that both plates were for sale in several agencies for nigh-on double what we paid for them, and they didn`t even include the registration fee !
They don`t even own the bloody things !
They just know that most buyers aren`t aware you can buy direct from DVLA,so they charge what they like.
