Page 1 of NTSC Playback on Pal TV
General Forum
Can anyone help me ? I own a Playstation2 with the new regionx cd that lets you play all regions on it, but when I play region1 it plays in black and white, so I have be told my TV doesn`t support NTSC playback, But does anyone know if I get a video that has NTSC playback on a pal tv and put my playstation2 through the scart at the back will this work?
No because it will only play through the Video, thus the video will not change it and you will have the same problem. There is not usually a problem with NTSC on TV`s if items are connected up with a SCART.

RE: NTSC Playback on Pal TV
I`ve had a similar problem.
Was easy to setup and so on, but only outputted in black and white. Check TV manual and it said it has NTSC playback, so I fiddled some more and after a day I was near to smashing my tv up so I had a break :).
In the end there was nothing I could do. Although recently I remote hacked my main DVD player (Hitachi 305E) and it outputted in colour fine?
From what I can tell you need a decent tv or this (page 3 of the PS2 manual)
"This console conforms to the PAL broadcast standard. You cannot play discs recorded for other broadcast standards (such as NTSC) on this console."
Although someone out there must be using regionx with it out putting colour?

The Hitachi outputs in PAL-60, which explains why you get colour playback from that. The PS2 outputs "true" NTSC, which your TV doesn`t support.
If you have the DVD Region X, however, you *can* get colour playback if you use a Playstation RGB SCART lead to connect the PS2 to the TV.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply but I have tried a PS2 rgb scart lead and still can`t get colour which is strange cause I used to own a multi-region Toshiba 2109 dvd player and it played fine when I put it on RGB output I can`t understand it
Hmm, it *should* work, assuming you have the Region X set up properly. Are you sure it`s a RGB lead you`re using? The lead which comes in the PS2 box isn`t wired for RGB.
Mike
looks like a will need a new TV

Yeah it`s definately an RGB scart Iead I bought it seperately from dixons and it does work cause I tried it on a friends tv and it played fine.
Oh right. Yeah, looks like it`s new TV time.
