Been caught by a speed camera. What to do?

kool (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 11th December 2005, 13:18

Fairly sure I was flashed by one of those mobile camera`s a couple of nights ago doing 35+ in a 30.Assuming I was,is there anything I can do to get out of it?A guy at work says that if you don`t reply to the letter in 2 weeks then that works or I`m sure I`ve heard that if you send a cheque for more than the fine then because they can`t send you the change, that might work.Has anyone managed to get off doing either of these or anything else? Many thanks in advance.

You could obviously contest the penalty in court, but only if you felt confident of winning - which you obviously won`t as you`ve just admitted you were indeed caught bang-to-rights and if you did lie in front of a magistrate then everything would get a lot nastier. Just accept it mate - like I had to accept a bloody parking ticket yesterday afternoon. Grr. :D

Yeah not much point contesting it as I was over 30.Rather not pay the fine whatever it is and/or get points though.I`m not sure of either as I`ve never been caught before.Any idea what the going rate for either one is?

I got my first parking ticket just last month, £30 (or £60 after 14 days). I just paid it. But damn, I was 3 minutes late and the warden was just walking away, complete swine.

As for the speeding, you should pay it. Just pay and learn your lesson. I`ve been flashed numerous times, but when I`ve never actually been speeding. Never had a letter through the door. You may be lucky and dodge it.

Just remember, speeding is bad, mkay! ;)

Yeah, I missed the warden by 10 minutes and it cost me £30. I once went through a speed camera doing about 50 in a 30, but luckily there was either no film or the camera itself was a dud; the OP will just have to wait and see.

The going rate is a £60 fine and three points on your license, which will remain on there for 3 years.

but actually doesn`t come off until the fourth year.

How strange. No sarcastic sanctimonious do-gooder hasn`t been along yet to say `How about not speeding in the first place`.

Won`t be long surely...

How about not speeding in the first place ;)

Seriously, it will be £30 and 3 points, IF you get done - at 35 in a 30 it is unlikely. If you commit the crime, you have to do the time. So to speak. I have had my 3points taken off my licence now from when i was flashed. It is just an annoying form of cheap policing which amounts to no more than another tax on motorists, but it you don`t spped ypu don`t get caught .... my advice - be more observent for the cameras next time :$
