Alba 104 is macrovision free!!!

Slydog (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 10th August 2001, 11:06

Hi all,
I recently purchased and alba 104 from argos costing £99.99
When I tried to record a dvd to video, to my surprise it worked fine!!
I`ve tried various dvd`s both region 1 & 2 and they all record perfect. Can anyone else who has a 104 try this, just to see if its all alba 104`s or if I was a lucky one
Cheers

Sean

Hmm... are you sure you haven`t just been "lucky" in that the DVDs you`ve tried to record aren`t actually flagged for Macrovision?

I thought that at first mike.
But I previously owned the Alba 103 but when I tried to record my region 1 Scream 3 it just came out all jumpy. I recorded scream 3 on the 104 and it came out perfect.

Hi

Just made the big leap into DVD ownership due to the posts on this thread. Went down to the local Argos and bought a Alba DVD104. I must say that I am very impressed so far. The picture quality is great (just as good as my mates Panasonic) and yes it is Macro free (at least the Pitch Black disc I rented from Blockbuster was).

Thanks guys for the heads up on this great bargain.

Jim

Thanks for the good advice

I had no idea what I wanted so I got the Alba 104 from Argos on the basis of all the positive comments I read here last week - they thought I was crazy when I said I wanted the substitute and refused to have the one from the catalogue!

It`s been doing great things since I got it and reading everything I put into it, so I spent ages yesterday trying to find information on recording straight to VCR. Everywhere I looked I got negative answers, usually to do with MacroVision (which I don`t really understand). I accepted that maybe this couldn`t be done. This morning I just had a go at doing a straight copy as I would from TV to VCR and it worked perfectly!

I for one am definately over the moon with this £99.99 player, so "thanks very much" to those who shared their experiences with those of us who don`t have a clue.

Cheers - Smokey
