i have a sony 725 dvd player and has been modified my techtronics...but the only proble is when i want to back up my NTSC films on to VHS the picture goes strange and color goes...i know there is a box out that converts the ntsc signalminto pal..but wheres the best and cheapest place to get it form?
thanks in advance..
Sounds like Macrovision to me
It sounds more like the Macrovision copy protection is kicking in and making the video copy do what you say.
Unless his video recorder can record NTSC or the Sony can output PAL-50 (which I doubt it can) he needs a box to convert the two.
You want to try a company called Keene Electronics - they do things like that - I got something called a Video Stabilizer from them a while ago which is good to "back-up" your DVD`s and pre-recorded VHS`s to video - it hasn`t failed me yet - (if anyone`s interested I`ll do a review of it) - I`ll dig out the phone number of them and post it here for you.

Video Stabilisers are for stabilising a macrovision protected film, it won`t help with you problem.
The Sony 725 only outputs NTSC as NTSC, it won`t output it as PAL
To convert NTSC to PAL 50 (PAL 50 is the only version a PAL recorder will record, you will have the same problems if you use a analogue standards convertor (£80 ones) as they only convert to PAL 60 this is viewable on tv but not recordable)
What you need is a digital standards convertor as this will convert the NTSC to PAL 50 that is recordable, the minimum price for one of these is £300, but you will get frame judder (looks likes frames are dropped), for a clear judder free image you will need a digital convertor with an active TBC, and thats going to be about £700
didn`t Pansonic and Samsung both make multi-region (as in all PAL modes , NTSC , SECAM etc) VCR`s ? - I`m sure at least Panasonic did - the other one may of been Sony and not Samsung.
