Confirmation: I am a snob.

The original 42pcenter MD (Elite) posted this on Monday, 10th October 2005, 10:49

Yesterday I wondered in to town to get the stuff for my sunday lunch. It poped in to my head that we have just had a Primark store open in the city. I had heard lots of people going on about the great priced good clothes. So I went to see what it was all about. I lasted about 30 seconds as the great unwashed pushed and barged there way through to get to the large piles of clothes that were being thrown about and droped and the trod on. I could not get out quick enough.

Sorry if I have offended anyone, but I am a snob, confirmed.

All the best,

Dr 42%er.

Don`t worry, Primark is absolutely bollocks. Granted, there are some bargains to be had for the girls (I wouldn`t buy anything from the mens department in truth, making me a snob too) but our local store is usually rammed with ladies from each end of the scale. I like my girlfriend to spend extra and get better and more exclusive clothes from the independant girls clothes shops usually.

My clothes snobbery has turned a little lately though - I have bought a couple of things from Topman over the last week, including a leather jacket, and bought somes cords from River Island. Normally I wouldn`t go near them - I`ve always liked my clothes to be more unique. But I`ve worked out its not what you wear necessarily, but how you wear it. ;)

Also, did you know you can`t return anything you buy from Primark? The minute you`ve paid, there`s no going back....

Here`s Chucky!

I agree with primark = rc[at]p but you can return IMHO. In a past life, primark used to be the sole source of clothes for me - and well I used to return as well.

It`s not the price of the clothes, it was the people in there. Shudders :o

Their kids` clothes are ok.

If you`re just after stuff for them to kick around in and get messed up then you don`t want to spend too much. Style-wise they`re reasonable although the quality isn`t that great - having said that, chances are that kids will grow out of it before it falls to bits anyway.

"Primarmani", my missus calls them!

Totally agree, and as for the great unwashed I do keep on at the missus about this...honest! ;)

Not true,we did this with some kids clothes only 4 days ago.
We often use Primark for our daughter`s clothes.
The likes of NEXT and Mothercare are daft-expensive for clothes that will get covered in felt pen and chocolate.

I know what you`re saying about a huge proportion of Primark`s adult customers though 42%er..
The thought of their dubious hygiene levels in man-made materials makes me gag. :/
Some of them look like they barely have the mental capacity to shop either. :o

I refuse to shop in Asda, which drives my wife daft.
I`ll sit in the car rather than run the gauntlet of minkers that shop there.
Why do whole families feel the need to shop at once in Asda ?
Granny`s there, hobbling along stinking of pish, the mother`s there wearing size 10 clothes over a size 18 body, the daughter`s there wearing an `oral sexpert` T-shirt (I kid you not,I`ve seen it) and their collective little e-numbered up brats are helping themselves to stuff you just know they won`t pay for.
You don`t get that in Sainsbury`s I swear you don`t,so I prefer to spend the few pounds more for the sake of my sanity.

I`m surprised you even lasted 30 seconds in the store. Ten seconds would well and truly do me in.

I use Primark for cheap n cheerful holiday or work clothing (much the same really except holidays I don`t actually get paid).

Dartford store is quite rough & ready, some of the women in there are really scary (have encountered people from work in there) sometimes shepperding a poor unfortunate male partner who obviously can`t be trusted to buy his own clothes.

Never had a returns problem with them, as long as you leave the shop labels on for exchanges.

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.
