RE: Fuel tax protests start Wednesay!
These people really f*** me off with their lack of consideration for others. The government isn`t going to cave under the pressure - why should they? They`ve got away with murder and still been re-elected. Even if they did lower the tax on fuel they`d only stick it on something else.
I lost a really good contract because of the last fuel protests, simply because I couldn`t get from Bristol to Swindon for the best part of a week. I`m still contracting, and need to travel to earn a living. These selfish bastards make me really f***ing angry!
RE: Fuel tax protests start Wednesay!
The high fuel prices aren`t the government`s fault; OPEC has been producing relatively low levels of oil and Hurricane Katrina destroyed most of the refineries in the Mexican Gulf. The government has even suspended tax hikes for the last 2 years so the protesters don`t have my sympathy.

It`s like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.
RE: Fuel tax protests start Wednesay!
I`m actually quite shocked by both of your responses...last time this happened, fuel prices did actually go down and they stayed down for a while!
I realise that the majority of the price increase is coming from the oil suppliers, but an awful lot of the cost of petrol is tax...Even if they just reduced the tax during this oil crisis it has to be a help! If you`re contracting then you above all people must be feeling the latest increases, I travel a lot locally for work and I`m really struggling with petrol costs.
Fill up your car before wednesday...and as we`ve had a bit of warning, if you have to travel miles later in the week, warn you clients that there may be problems during the fuel protests.
I fully agree with what they`re trying to do and Ihope they succeed.

I filled up the car the other day and it cost me £36.43, a while ago, it used to cost a maximum of £28 to fill it! Needless to sayI wasn`t impressed.

RE: Fuel tax protests start Wednesay!
You Brits just sit back and take it, £1 a litre, thats £4.65 a gallon !
Taxation on fuel is over 70% and you just give it the stiff upper lip stuff.
If this was Australia, the goverment would be booted out by now.
Does not affect your MP`s though, as their on a minimum wage of £70K plus expences.
What it does affect is transport costs and they WILL BE reflected onto food costs, clothing costs, ect.
But as your good little UK people who accept you lot in life, just relax take an asprin and accept your lot, as a total bunch of sheep.
The meek shall inherit the taxation :D

your`e right Bandicoot one of the many reasons im ashamed to be British.
RE: Fuel tax protests start Wednesay!
The reason UK fuel taxes are so high is quite simple. They`ve always been high. They`ve been steep for quite some time, but to quote something that`s been said, it`s not the Govt`s fault. Well, kinda.
The budget for the country has to get it`s funds somehow. Fuel, tobacco and alcohol are easy targets. Unfortunately, the fuel tax affects the other 2 more than vice versa. If fuel tax goes up (which it will) then cigarette and alcoholic beverage producing companies will put their prices up as it costs them more to ship their products to their customers.
Fossil fuels, while they last, are the most important commodities on the planet. Everyone goes on about Bush only being interested in saving his oil supply lines, but quite frankly, if he wasn`t, he wouldn`t be in power. The fact he`s killing our boys to protect that commodity is criminal, but it`s not part of this debate.
What we`re gonna have now is a bunch of chavs with bad hair shouting at anyone who`s got a camera about how they`re doing the right thing when, in fact, they`re crippling the most essential services in the country.
If you drive for a living, to earn the money day by day to put the food on your childrens plate, are you going to applaud these people for robbing you of a weeks wages? I drive an 18-tonner for a builders` yard. It`s not my only work, so I`ve got something to fall back on, but my truck gets through a full tank (just over 100 litres) in about 2 days. If an independant truck driver/owner fills up on tuesday night, he`ll be ok until friday. But only if he doesn`t carry anything inthat truck for the strike period.
No. I Don`t agree with this blockade. I hate that it costs £40+ to fill up my car, but robbing hard-working people of hard-earned wages is as criminal as the `injustice` they`re protesting against.
