Page 1 of E-bay Discussions

I placed 43 quite good DVD`s up for auction on e-bay, starting bid £50 (as I was advised to start low).
They have been sold for only £51!! I don`t want to sell them for such a little amount. What did I do wrong. Am I "obliged" to sell for such a trivial amount?
Help!

sorry buddy, but thats just the way the cookie crumbles :( the trick with ebay is timing the auctions so they finish at a "busy" time of day, but when it comes to dvd`s all bets are off. if you wanna posta link to the auvtion i`ll cast an eye over it for you tho ?

man, thats harsh :( but, if you are the type of person that likes to take the moral high ground then you are moraly & legaly obliged to complete the contract.

BUT if you decide to back out, the worst that will happen is ebay will slap your wrist & the buyer will (rightly) give you negative feedback.

bottom line, it`s up to you.

Hmmm, morally I guess you are correct and will have to struggle with that.
I just can`t sell them for such a pitiful amount, would get a better deal down the road.
Not really bothered whether I get slapped wrists, but I am really in no financial position to sell them at that amount. Plus the buyer has umpteen "good" recommendations, so obviously is buying and reselling at huge profit.
Maybe it is best I just disappear off the face of the earth. :(
E-bay seems to be a mug`s game then if you don`t know exactly what you are doing. :/

yes, you should sell, if i was the buyer and you refused i would be pretty p1$$ed at you for changing your mind, if you were that worried you should have put a higher start price or a reserve on them!

Last time I did put a higher start price and someone advised (and e-bay did) to put a lower bidding price. Obviously bad advice.

You probably don`t have to sell , because selling on Ebay as a private seller is more of a moral than legal thing. I would have thought that it is unlikely that anyone would sue you if you didn`t sell at the agreed price and as Ogster says , the worst that will probably happen is that you will get neg feedback and a nasty email from Ebay and you will never be able to show your face in public again ( ;) ok , maybe I made the last bit up).
But , if you had no intention of selling at a low price , then you should have set a reserve or a higher starting price - a lesson you can put to use in your next Ebay ID :¦

The buyer has good feedback because he takes part in the auctions and pays up straight away. If he is making a huge profit (which I think is unlikely) , he doesn`t seem to be doing it on Ebay as he doesn`t appear to sell anything.
If I would you (not that I would ever do this , speaking as an Ebayer with 100% feedback)
I would make some kind of excuse as to how the DVDs had become unsellable during the course of the auction (like you left them in a box and the cat p***ed on them :D - ok so you don`t have a cat .............)
