I don`t know what`s the best make - but make sure you get a larger load drum and don`t get a washing machine/dryer they suck.
Other than that the Dyson one looks nice and expensive.

New ones are hardly dear (£200 will get you a good one).
Firstly, look for one that has an `A` rating for everything (wash quality, efficiency)
Then look for one that is offering the best aftersales deal.
For example,we bought a Bosch because they were offering a free 3 year parts and labour guarantee.
So that`s 3 years peace of mind for no more money than the competition.
Of course I`ve heard Bosch are reliable, which is evidently why they feel comfortable enough to offer the free warranty, but we haven`t had it that long so I can`t really comment one way or the other.
(I`ve highlighted `and labour` to avoid someone stating that the parts might be free, but they will charge a mint for labour).

We bought an Ariston Washer Dryer 11 years ago and despite 3 house moves and being used in London (hard water) for the past 9 years it is still working away fine - no repairs needed.
We only bought an Ariston because it was the cheapest one available at the time and I was a bit skint.

My washing machine doesn`t suck. Where did you get it from? However she does wash and wipe up, dust, hoover and vary rarely fetch me a beer from this big white thing. :)

Depends how much you want to spend. Bosch Pro Logic - we`ve had our a few years and its very good. Mind you top spin of 1400rpm but rarely use that speed - In fact I rarely use it ;) - the other `arf does :D .
Happy washing

German makes are generally reliable. I had a Siemans for ages. When it went I got a Bosch and no complaints. Only thing with buying used is "why they getting rid ?". Even if the machine works there must be something the owner wasn`t happy with.

Not necessarily.
They`re so cheap to buy these days that many people can`t be arsed taking them when they move house,so the new occupiers might find himself with two machines
Or perhaps they have bought a new property with white goods thrown-in.
Then,of course, you get women like my missus, who want to bin perfectly serviceable machines coz they `look a bit dated` and `can she have the latest one`,with passive aggressive comments such as "I do all your washing remember" thrown in... :/ :o

We got a Siemens washing machine a year ago from "Trade Appliances". They have showrooms & are "online " traders as well.
It came with a free 5yr warranty.
Looks well built & has double glazed door !!!!!

I bought a Servis Saphire washing machine in 1988, its been back to my mothers where it used to wash two lots of football team kits and my mother used it for a bit (I had moved into a furnished flat).
The only thing that has gone wrong is the drive belt came off the pully, coins got stuck in the motor.
But its a great washing machine and I will not change it for anything else...
