Just bought a Rover 200... A big mistake???
After recently having my car written off due to someone breaking in to it and bending the doors in the process (surely a brick through the window is less effort??!!) I bought an S reg Rover 200 si with PAS, EW, sunroof etc. for £1200.
I`m happy with it, it`s a smart, clean, well looked after car and it drives well but... With the shutdown of the Rover factory, I`m not sure whether to use it for a year while I save up enough money to buy a newer car and trade it in or keep it and not worry about whether I will be able to get spare parts in the future?
Anyone have any advice on this one?
Jill

Spares will be available for 10 yrs+ as they are made by independants(if anything major goes bang it will be as cheap to buy another car see my point below) As to the car use it because with the massive discounts on new rovers and people like yourself panicing the secondhand rover market is in decline big time.Enjoy your car you got it cheap enough :D

Thanks Ryno_Dod... Your advice is appreciated.
I only want/need a small car as my husband has a Citroen Xantia if we ever need to shift stuff. Ideally I would like a Toyota Yaris or (another) Skoda Fabia (Had a brand spanking new one in 2000 but my ex-husband kept it when we got divorced.) I`ll keep saving up. I`m a bit peeved at my insurance premiums going up so much and all due to some bleb damaging my car!

If it gets to a stage where parts are so scarce that you can`t afford to replace them when needed, the car would instead probably be worth a fair bit for the parts that still work!

I got one after some tw*t wrote my S40 off, as a runner, its a 2.0td and it (because i am always running late!) has been worked like the proverbial horse and it still goes fine with 103,000 on the clock...
I was suprised too !!!

Thanks for the info Hedgie and rigger... an intresting comment you made about spares Hedgie, I never thought about that.
I`m picking the car up tomorrow evening and the first test will be the 30 mile journey home. I`m going to book it in with a local garage for a service although the car passed it`s MOT only last month so there shouldn`t be too many problems with it.
Thanks again,
Jill
