Can you recommend low tarrif to Australia from BT landline exc 18866 & 1899

The title says it all really. I`m trying to find the cheapest tarrif to ring Australia from a BT Landline without having to register online or get bills online (i.e. line call1899 and call18866).

Reason being its for an old friend who doesn`t have a pc/internet connection and wants to manage their own calls/finances.

I found www.firstnumber.co.uk but don`t know anything about them - are they reliable and has anyone used them. The call gets billed straight onto their BT invoice.

Thanks

p.s. if its in wrong forum mods please relocate.

Have a look HERE :D

There`s quite a choice and most are "dial-through" providers where the charge for calling the access number appears on your BT bill with no further charges to pay.

Didn`t think to check MSE. I see there`s some companies that charge 1p per min (and don`t seem to charge a connection fee) and get billed straight on your BT Line.

Anyone had experience of the following mentioned on MSE. Would it be safe to use them?

Telesavers, Telediscount, Liquid Telecom, DialAround, Just-dial, Telestunt, Abroadtel, Simply-fone, Cheapestcalls, Pennyphone, Cheapestcalls, Ratebuster and Budgetcom

The BT International Option that JamesL mentions would end up costing more because you`re paying £1 per month and then the 5p per min each time you call - unless I`ve misunderstod it.

Thanks for the useful info.

Yes - used several of these providers Telesavers/Telestunt etc and they are as advertised - excellent for cheap international calls. If you`re in doubt why not try a short call and check your bill online throught BT.

Most of these Telesavers/Telestunt type of companies are actually part of the same group. You can`t really go wrong as the initial call to the access number is the one which appears on your BT bill - there`s no way they can bill you again.

One slight downside to this type of service is that you start getting charged when you are connected to the access number so if you ring someone and the line is engaged or not answered, you are still charged for the time you are connected to the service. Having said that, 1p per minute is hardly going to bankrupt you!

have a look at onetel, think they still send bills out, but you might have to pay a bit extra, and also they supply FREE a box which will plug into the phone socket and divert the calls that way, so if you don`t want use them for local calls or such just unplug.
