Another eBay thread

xfg (Elite Donator) posted this on Friday, 15th April 2005, 14:32

Saturday: I email Playstation 1 seller saying I`ll pay on Monday if I win. I win.

Sunday: Seller says that`s fine.

Monday: Paid late-morning (Paypal was having problems).

Wednesday: Email seller asking when to expect parcel. Seller says he`s been really busy with work, but he`ll send it tomorrow, expect it Friday. I write back and say, good, cos I need it this weekend.

Today: No parcel.

I sent another email off today to emphasise needing it tomorrow - *can* wait longer, but thought the quicker the better as my sister will sulk.

Seller has 100% positive feedback, and all sold items only had a short gap between auction end and feedback sent - including an item that finished the same day as mine (though would have been posted Monday morning before I`d paid).

I`m still new at this - how long should I wait for before approaching eBay to report it not received?

E-bay allow daft periods for payments or dispatches.
A buyer is given,I`m sure,14 days to pay.
Probably the same for shipping.

Most e-bayers are quick, which makes the slow ones stick out like a sore thumb.

That had been my experience too - apart from a poster that took five days (infuriating because it was located in the same city as me!).

It`s only been 4 days so far, but I fret.

I`d contact ebay if I were you - actually I have a nasty tale to tell about Paypal that happened to a mate of mine. Said friend was selling his mountain bike with ebay, blokey won the auction and bought it, everything went through paypal and my friend posted off the bike.

However, a week later Paypal contacted my friend (the seller) to say he had to pay the outstanding amount on this account for the bike! Apparantely the blokey who bought it used a fraudulant credit card and since feburary paypal have changed their rules and if this happens it is the liability of the seller to pay the outstanding amount!

He`s furious, just had to buy his own bike back (after never receiving the money in the first place) and doesn`t even have the bike anymore! He reported it to police what can you do.

So beware with Paypal, although I dunno if cheques might be more reliable?

Not heard that before, and surely that is taking a liberty by getting the seller to pay off the outstanding amount? Since when did sellers/retailers have to make restitution for fraudulent payments? I would have thought PayPal would have had liability for this as they must have authorised his card for the payment... >:(

And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

well as you can imagine my mate reiterated everything you just said and was told `sorry, we`ve changed our rules, if it`s fraud it`s down to you`, nice of helpful of paypal.

To be fair, thats all I know, so maybe there is more too it, but my mate has sold and bought stuff on ebay before with no problem, but he`s certainly been burnt now and not a happy bunny.

I wouldn`t want to pay by cheque as then *everything* would take ages.

What do you think about this plan: see what happens tomorrow. If it doesn`t come, and communication is still poor, ask for a refund. If that hasn`t happened by Monday, and the package doesn`t appear, file a complaint on eBay.

I`m tempted to wait for Monday before contacting him for a refund, to give him Saturday to send if he is so busy with work.

I s`pose it`s reasonable to assume that he`s not been able to get to the post office and wotnot but if it doesn`t turn up by Mon/Tues then I`d get in touch.

Funny,but that`s the only way I`ll deal with e-bayers.
Anyone who insists on paypal doesn`t get my custom.
