My new Nintendo DS has a dead pixel - do I take it back??

retrogeezer (Elite) posted this on Friday, 11th March 2005, 22:13

I`m pretty annoyed about this - £100 and it`s only been on for 5 minutes and I`ve a got a dead pixel on the lower screen.

Anyone know what the deal would be in regard to returning it to the shop?

Thing is, I get on well with the manager there and I don`t want to P*** him off - but don`t think this should happen after 5 mins - really noticable on a 3 inch screen too. :(

planetpatrol,,,do you take it back??? yes you do. Like you said it is noticable on a 3" screen and it will bug you. I have a pair of Olympus eyetreks if you know what they are. Audio visual glasses that looks like your viewing a 52" tv. That has one dead pixel and was out of the 3 year warrenty I payed for but if it was in warrenty I would have got them replaced etc etc.

I dont use them now like many of my gadgets but as to you 5mins=1 dead pixel=take them back m8

You should be able to take it back as it is a fault with the console. Nintendo have no tolerance for dead pixels and as such any DS with a dead pixel can be replaced.

By the way a dead pixel is not caused by actually playing on the device it happens during the manafacturing of LCD screens. If you have a dead pixel on a screen it will not get worse than it is. As long as there are no dead pixels on the next DS you get you will not get any later.

Yeh, I guess it was there all along, I just didn`t notice until I put a game in with a dark screen - it then sticks out like a sore thumb as it`s bright blue.

I got it from Gamestation so I assume they will give me a replacement off the shelf?

I can`t give you the source, (because I can`t remember) but I read that Nintendo were happy to replace units with dead pixels, at least in USA anyway!

I think with LCD PC monitors, most manufactures say, that they won`t replace a unit with less than 5 dead pixels.

But with your DS, as you`ve probably noticed, now you know its there it will always draw your attention :(

Hopefully the shop will take it back with no fuss, I think they should do.

Took it back - no problems at all from the store.

The manager was disappointed to see one with a dead pixel already! He knew there were problems with the early release ones in the US but Nintendo were supposed to have increased quality control for the european launch.

They had 20 yesterday so he wasn`t happy to have one returned the next day!
