Page 1 of Mind If I Have A Whinge?
General Forum
Humour me, I need to get this off my chest.
I`m just about to head off to bed now with the prospect of going to the local hospital Path lab in the morning to give a fasting blood sample. That means I`ll have been nil-by-mouth for twelve hours by the time I get there.
I spent much of last Thursday (including an overnight stay) in the observation ward with a heart rate of 140 and matching blood pressure. I`ve had two chest x-rays, three ECGs, a saline drip in my arm and quite frankly I`ve been cacking myself with worry waiting for my heart rate to reduce.
It wound down of its own accord (rather than them pumping me full of medication), so every twinge I feel I`m terrified my engine might start racing again and the last thing I want is to throw a piston rod. As I appear to have a positive blood sugar level of around 15.5mmol/L, the doctors (for whom I have nothing but undying admiration) reckon I must be diabetic.
It is a hell of a sobering thing to have an ambulance called for you by your GP when you try to make an appointment to see him. Especially when you`re only 41 and still think you`re pretty indestructible. They`re doing other blood tests to check my thyroid function and things like that as well, but if it`s been brought on by stress like I think it has, then my stress levels are hardly likely to reduce.
I need a lie down.

If it turns out your a diabetic it`s no big deal. Like you I was diagnosed as diabetic in my 40`s. I take medicine (3 pills a day) and I lead a perfectly normal life.
All the best.

Once you get that over & done with, watch the heart rate drop. :)
Seriously hope your feeling better soon & all the tests come out fine.
I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.
A whinge?? That`s not a whinge, that`s ........, well, I don`t know quite what it is, but it`s more than just a whinge, it`s real.
At roll call, you said you`d not been well, but in hospital?? :(
Hope they sort it out and you feel better soon.
All the best.

Crikey mate - hope it all gets sorted soon. Wonder if it was watching Rik`s film that sent your blood pressure so high? ;)
Just noticed that 42%er & 58%er even have the same sign off on their posts now:
