***SPOILER*** Don`t read this if you haven`t seen the Mummy Returns
Well, I could finally "Smell what the Rock is cooking" - & it was a bit too much computer generated graphics in the end.
Don`t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the film, but why couldn`t they have bought the Scorpion King back as the Scorpion King & not a giant Scorpion - let`s face it he was (I quote) "the greatest warrior that ever lived" & a big lad to boot - so he would have been a formidable foe, surely. It`s no wonder he lost, he wasn`t used to fighting with 8 legs, a tail & pincers!
I actually enjoyed it more than the first (both no-brainers as Stoney said) but that ending soured it a bit for me - he didn`t even look real.
C`mon Stoney tell me what you really thought...

i thought it was really good but was ultimately lacking that bit extra to elevate to a great movie. maybe it was the storyline! anyway the action was well done but i thought they over-did the cgi stuff sometimes. i thought that the Rock at the end looked crap, he looked like hed been dragged straight from a ps game. as for rachael weis - phwoaar!!!!!!

I THOUGHT THE FILM WAS BRILL.I AGREE ABOUT THE ENDING BUT IT DIDNT SPOIL THE WHOLE FILM IT WAS MORE LAUGHABLE THAN ANY THING ELSE,ALL THAT WAS MISSING WAS HIS EYEBROW RAISE THAT HE DOES SO WELL
.ALSO WAS THE HEADBUTT FROM RACHEL WEISZ THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CUT OUT STILL IN THERE OR HAS IT BEEN TONED DOWN FROM WHAT IT ORIGINALLY WAS????
LET ME KNOW.

I agree with the scorpion thing. Very strange. Taking his name a little too literally. The effects were amazing..some of the best I`ve seen and the surround sound in the cinema was great. My only gripe wasn`t actually with the film itself is was to do with the prats sitting at the back of the cinema drinking and smoking and generally shouting over the top of the movie to talk to each other. Why the hell couldn`t the attendants ask them to leave? Pansies. We even yelled at them to shut up but had no luck. Good film though...if you leave your brain at the door. :)
RE: ***SPOILER*** Don`t read this if you haven`t seen the Mummy Returns
I saw the film on Sat night.....and two words sum it up A MESS......
I loved the first film....(one of the first DVDs i bought).... It had humour, thrills, suspense....and most importantly...it had a story...
The sequel....well.....like i said "a mess"...no story...the characters were so one dimensional...the rock was wasted, the effects were poor, and the director couldn`t decide whether he wanted steady-cam fighting scenes like Gladiator or Matrix style effects........
i understand the "leave your brain at the door" attitude...but this just expected us to leave a lot more than our brains........the liberties taken with narrative were unbelievable........and anachronistic as hell.......
sorry to be the only one not to like but....but i just hoped for more.....i really wanted to enjoy the film....and i waited untill the showdown with Anuk-Sun-Amun (however it`s spelt!)...and Nefertiti before deciding it was a load of bollocks.....
sorry!...haGGis!
The print I saw actually contained two headbutts. One from Rachel Weisz`s character and another from Oded Fehr`s character. Did anyone else spot these headbutts?
I`ve heard that they`re were cut from the UK version to bring the rating down from a 15 to a 12.
Well I can remember seeing headbutts.
But anyway, I must admit, it seems like by the end of the film, they`d had their special effects budget cut short, because the Scorpion King wouldn`t have looked out of place in `The Lawnmower Man`. It did spoil it, and in my opinion, made it a lesser film than the original.
Several sequences were amazing, starting with the bus chase, and also the when the Pygmy Warriors attacked.
But I do agree, why the hell did they have to make the Scorpion King, actually half man/half scorpion? Where they getting bored by that point? I suppose it was perhaps because of all of the amazing action scenes earlier, they felt they needed to top it. But in fact, made it worse.
The Rock got one of the top billing, and I can remember him getting rave reviews about his performance a few months ago. But when he is in the film, un-CGI`d, he must only be on screen for a total of about five minutes maximum! And he hardly said a thing!
At least we can give the film makers credit for not retreading the same ground as before, but it`s called The Mummy Returns, but he just took a backseat, and had a tiny role compared to the original. Alot of the focus seemed to be on, what I thought, was a stupid incarnation story involving Rachel Weisz`s character and Anuck Su Numun.
Anyway, even though I`ve just slagged it off completely, it`s still not that bad. When the film finished I just sat feeling empty. No emotions. Which is why I understand more now when someone calls a film a no-brainer. But I still didn`t think it was bad. Just... okay I suppose.
Oh yeah, and is it true that there`s supposed to be a Scorpion King film? I reckon they should just leave it dead and buried now (sorry for the pun).
d:o)
yeah! apparently the studio execs at universal were sooo impressed (???) with the Rocks perfromance in the Mummy Returns theyve cast him in his own film The Scorpion King. how on earth they thought he was good acting material after three minutes worth of grunts and groans is beyond me!!! anyway hes currenlty filming it, so thats why hes not in the WWF at the moment.
The film was great fun but lets face it, it was all the mummy 1 over again wasnt it? The crane, The face in the water, the aircraft? Oh come on.
The crane bit i loved though, very self refferetial. Very predictable. I mean who even thought about crying when rachel weisz died? Patricia velasquez was hot though, very hot. Realistically, the story could have been made much more original. Afteer seeing it, i dont belive its worth getting on dvd. Lets hope that producers are releasing the crappish(mummy, pearl harbour, blow, captain corelli) films first and saving the best till last (Jp3, LOTD, shrek, tomb raider, planet of the apes)
