Brrrrruuuummmmm... almost got my bike!
Well, after about 3 months of saving and finally selling my car on eBay, I finally have the money to buy my very first motorbike!
I am getting the helmet for Christmas off my mum (I chose it on Saturday) and already have all the clothing and locks, and the bike should be getting delivered on Saturday.
It`s only an SR125, but that`s more than enough for me (for now anyway!) It is costing £900, but is in very good condition (except for leaking seals, but he is supplying me with some genuine replacements and it only costs about £20 to get them changed apparently)

Well done, but take care. My first bike was a Yamaha US Custom. My mate`s really into bikes & he has had 3 brand new Harleys but now has a New BMW, also an off roader that he drives all over Dorset, & sometimes Northern Spain. He also has a bike that he sold mid 70s & it came up for sale again last year & he bought that back again.

I know it`s not realy the time of year to get a bike, but I only want it for goofing around on and getting some road experience I wont be using it to get to work or anything like that, so as long as I get a few non-icy, non-wet, non-windy days I`ll be fine.
The only problem is that my only biking experience was my CBT, so I would really like to try it around a car park to start with until I get used to the controls, but because shops are open on Sundays now, there`s no carparks to play in! So I may just be straight on the roads! :o
Just remembered, I have to get some back armour!

RE: Brrrrruuuummmmm... almost got my bike!
I`m with you badboybez
Too many fairweather bikers around.
Any numpty can ride in nice warm dry conditions.
You have to be a bit of a dick to fall off in the dry,to be honest.
Wet weather/slippery conditions riding teaches you about machine control and,as a consequence, makes you a better rider full stop.
I used to instruct at track days ( I just take part now, unless specifically asked to help )
I used to enjoy the wet days just as much as the dry ones.
Much more of a challenge and much more enjoyable helping people get up to speeds they didn`t dream was possible on wet tarmac.
Most people went away having learnt far more on a wet track day than they ever would on a dry one.
Having said all of the above I admit I tend to avoid deliberate foul weather riding these days, although it certainly doesn`t scare or worry me.
To be honest,it`s the suiting up and cleaning of a filthy bike that makes me avoid it these days.
I`ve done my bit riding through snow and thawing my hands in luke warm water after. :/

Fair weather bikers GRRRRRRRRRRR Got to admit I don`t ride during winter any more due to advancing years and the Virago has been laid up now since October. Always did suffer with numb fingers during the cold even as a mere lad. That despite different brands and types of gloves, i.e. Thermalite inners etc. Only thing that did help was those handlebar muff thingys, they looked a bit poncey though. Anyway it`s no pleasure to ride if you`re uncomfortable and it can be dangerous as well. Have always thought that an "apprenticeship" on a bike makes you a better car driver.

May not be sexy, but it`ll be a great way of learning all the basics of bike handling without killing yourself in the process ;)

Please please please don`t get a `taste` for chopper/cruiser bikes though...
Get your test out of the way and get a proper sports bike asap eh ?
Choppers/cruisers do nothing that bikes should do.
They aren`t fast, they don`t go round corners properly and they don`t brake well.
Leave Harleys,or pseudo Harleys,for mid-life crisis posers. ;)
You wanna sports bike you do.
