Anyone want a free TV? There`s no catch.

Oh alright then, obviously there`s a catch! The main one being that it is broken. :D

It died this morning (it`s a Grundig 32" WS so not exactly top of the range). When I turned it on I would get a picture for about 10 seconds, then it would make a ticking noise, then a soft popping noise then it would turn itself off. I left it for a couple of hours then turned it on again .This time it lasted for about 10 minutes before it had the same symptoms.

I nipped out to Asda and got myself a 32" Sanyo to replace it.

It seems a shame to throw away the TV, when it might be possible for someone to get it working again (I know that if it`s the tube that`s gone it is financially inviable to fix it), so anyone got any suggestions as to what to do with it?

Don`t think of yourself as an ugly person. Think of yourself as a beautiful monkey!

Yeah, that crossed my mind too, but sadly I don`t. It`s a shame as I was decorating the house this weekend, it would have been terrible if a can of paint had somehow spilled inside the TV. ;)

Like the rockstar idea mind! :D

Be very careful of the paint spillage idea, I heard from a mate who tried this on a spillage over his sofa & carpet.

He had while decorating accidentally spilled paint over an area of carpet & decided to try for a new suite as well & so deliberately poured the paint over it.

They wanted to know what paint he used
Where he was while decorating, ie how many rungs up the step ladder & how placed.

They brought out a model showing accidental paint spillage patterns & concluded (correctly) that the spillage was not in accordance with the expected areas`s of coverage for the accident as described & refused the claim outright.

Guess who had to pay for both carpet & a reasonablly good suite to be replaced (For once not me & the rest of the pay through the nose household insurance policy holders).

If Mac users are "more intelligent than the average computer user," why do they need an operating system designed for complete idiots?

I used to do a lot of PC repairs for a certain well known high street/retail park PC store and their 2 sister electrical shops. Without mentioning any names ;)

Used to go to a lot of houses that had accidentally dropped the computer down the stairs/ poured paint in. It was completely obvious the majority were fake. Never forget this one, must have had about 2 litres of emulsion poured in through the PSU fan on the back. and another one with hammer marks all over the case that supposedly was dropped down the stairs.

But anyway, they paid out, every time, no questions asked, they didn`t even want the old goods back, and I was once threatened with loosing my contract for suggesting a customer had deliberatly damaged a computer to make a claim. I just had to go there and say it was beyond economical repair then drop the parts off at the nearest dump (minus the memory and anything else worth selling :D )

Not sure if it is the same now that they have their own master, sorry, afterCARE firm doing the repairs but am told that it is by a friend still contracting to them.

All the best

Ger.
