Italian Job, did they realy do that to them cars?
You know the bit, Italian winding road, Micheal Cain talking to the Mafia.
And then they trash them wonderfull motor cars, the Jaguar and the Aston Martin..with a JCB .There must be a film buff who knows were they real?
Tell me they were just good copies , thats one bit of the film I find hard to watch I find it hard to believe they would trash such fantastic cars.

Bear,
There was an in depth program on Channel 4 about a year ago on every nook and cranny of the production of the Italian Job. I probably think that they did. I missed the first half of this documentary. There were scenes cut too that had never been shown before. Maybe CH4 can help give you more info on this.

I`m pretty sure that they really did trash that Aston (DB5?) and E-Type, i sure i could have found a much better use for them (i.e. cruising) :-)
RE: Italian Job, did they realy do that to them cars?
Is it available on DVD?
Does anyone know?

Never found it - though there were rumours last year. My bet is the remake will get onto DVD before the original!
If anyone has found it please post!

I saw a program on this a while ago and I`m pretty sure the Jag etc that they trashed were replicas. Lots of Minis smashed up though. 8¬)

Replicas? Are you kidding?? Both cars will have been insurance rightoffs, tarted up by the vehicle providers (basically chop-shop jobs) specifically for junking in the movie. Like dumping the Roller in the quarry in A View To A Kill, they used Cubby Broccoli`s own car for all the scenes except that, then John Richardson (special effects guru) acquired a junker that they could sink quite happily.

Apparently the production crew, approached Austin mini to get a promotional price, but were turned away.
My father worked at Aston Martins at the time, I`ll ask him if he has any recollections about the Italian Job. I remember as a child looking at the Bond Aston(s) for Goldfinger, and yes they did make more than one.

Actually they trashed not just 1 of each but a few because they couldn`t get the car to roll off the hill the way they want it the first few times! gasp!
