The maritime museum is worth a gander, and there`s an elvis museum at the back of one of the shops there (it`s got life-size cardboard cut-outs in the window)

As for the Pool itself. The Cavern Club is ok, and as small as you`d expect a cavern to be. you`re actually encouraged to write on the tables too.

And no trip to Liverpool is complete without a visit to the Goth-Filled flea-market that is Quiggins. Don`t bother going above the first floor tho...

You don`t say if you`re staying overnight but, if you are, there`s a good new hotel - Hope Street Hotel:

It`s half way on the rather nice street between the two cathedrals (which, if you like architecture, are well worth visiting). And every room has a dvd player, in case you wanna stay indoors...

Dont forget to pop a copy of `The Sun` in your back pocket...

..and go to the Philharmonic Pub (outside the Philharmonc Hall funnily enough) and have a pee in the fantastic marble bogs, if they`re still there of course. You could also pop over to Maghull and have a peek at the `institution` there that`s still (I believe) accomodating Ian Brady. Then there`s the Walker Art Gallery which I remember going to several times many, many years ago..and I think I emjoyed it. Lots of Biblical paintings with loads of blood....never affected me of course 8)

the cavern is a fake - the original was knoked down in the 70`s; avoid The Grafton club - a non-liverpudlian once described it (accurately) as the cantina scene from Star Wars; if you need cheap booze check out Slater`s in Slater Street: it`s as rough as toast but you won`t find cheaper drink; if you have time, check out the new FACT cinema, one of the few things we have in our favour as far as capitals of culture go.
And wherever you are from, if you can laugh at yourself you will do fine.
