If they are input sockets then `NO`. Theyre for your VCR/DVD/External Source to be able to play thru your TV speakers.
You need output sockets and perhaps an amplifier in between.
If you did though, the loudspeakers shouldnt destroy your TV, but the best you can expect is the speakers acting like some kind of crude microphones.
Howling (feedback), WHISTLING may occur.
DONT TRY THIS - as Hitachi TV`s produce there own kind of whistling anyway :)
You could try posting your query at http://www.theironduke.plus.com/HitachiSyndicate/ in his TV forum.
He really loves newcomers likeyourself and he needs the hits as his site is dwindling like the bargain basement 505 :)

lol.......that was a high power capacitor vibrating that caused the whistling, a dab of glue and perfection once more:-)))))))))))))

roflmao....you wish you had my sites popularity funboy.......then the mico might then be all it could be!
back to the question.......I had a 511 before my 523, the 511 was the nicest looking TV I have seen.........but it had no tilt control and the set had a slight tilt:(
post yer question at my forums you should get a response pretty soon, although if you read your manual it gives a stern waring about plugging any old s***(mico?) into the sockets!
My Hitachi - think it`s a 511, but can`t remember offhand - has two speaker OUTPUTS at the back which you can use instead of the bult-in speakers, which tend to phart if they`re driven too hard. Was this what you meant? If so, yes you can plug speakers in - but you`ll be far better off with even a half-cdecent amp, and plugging the audio outs (phono connectors) into the amp.
Have a good look at the manual - it`s pretty good on connections as TV/Video etc manuals go.
thanks for the help! yes it was outputs that i meant(i was tired when writing that post) i have no room for an amp and just wanted to use my old tv surround speakers for that little extra definition, even though my hitachi 3ds sounds pretty good for simulated sound.
btw duke my tv manual only mentions not to use the 18v socket for non hitachi stuff.

Dukey, I`ve got the 401 (i think - anyway same telly line but the cheapest model - it has no phono outs at the back, but it does have a headphone socket at the front - can it easily be modified to add phonos?
I guess they use the same logic boeard but add or subtract components depending on the model.
Mine also has a slight tilt, which is no big problem, but it would be nice to kil it - is there a pot on the board i can twiddle?
