Can anyone suggest a cheap MultiRgion DVD Player ?

Andy Milner (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 25th August 2000, 19:47

Hi , I`m not enquiring for myself, but I thought you guys might know.
I already have a good Pioneer DV-626 player which i bought earlier this year, and I am very happy. My Next door neigbour is asking which player would be good for multiregion, of course i can suggest pioneer,Sony for instance, but hes only looking for a cheap model. I`ve seen some posts that the Wharfedale dvd players arent very good at region hacking since a few people are experiencing problems, so im asking you guys.
His price range would be say £100-£180 ish

cheers.

Andy.

Try Unbeatable.co.uk. They have the Mico A980 for sale at £179.99, with delivery at £6.99. Its multi - region hackable from the remote and has all the gizmos like the Dolby 5.1 decoder and the rest.

But good luck getting hold of one!!! People who ordered theirs mid-july are still waiting. Saying that they expect delivery of loads of new machines next week, but don`t hold your breath!

There is a comprehensive review in last months TotalDVD magazine and a little snippet at the back of this months.

Try speaking to www.techtronics.com who`re very helpful. As for players, LG3200 is ok, but not `feature rich`.

Be warned there is a 5 week wait for the Mico A980 from www.unbeatable.co.uk (tel 01293 543 555).

It may worth going for the WebtronicLB900 (Xwave) from www.letsbuyit.com.

or try www.bigsave.com for a range of multi region players from new Samsung DVD511 at £187 REC Multi-Region DVD with integrated Karaoke machine at £159.99

or try www.hed.co.uk - there have good quality range.

I bought the Alba 103 from Toys`r`Us £148 on Friday.
It will play "any" Region DVD straight out the box (automaticly).
£150 from Argos.

The first, and probably best, budget remote-hackable DVD player was the Wharfedale 750. You can only buy them at Tesco at around 180 pounds. What hifi gave it five stars.

Alternatively, try out the Alba 103 from Toys`R`Us I think at 140 pounds.

Check out the hardware reviews f the various DVD websites before buying. Some of the cheap stuff available is pure junk.

Regards,

Gareth

Don`t go farther. ARISTON DVD2000 is available at Richer Sounds for £139. Multi-region and plays very well the known problematic MATRIX dvd disc. It has both Scart and optical digital out. I didnt have any problem with it . Its fantastic. It has a seperate hacking instructions on its manual printed on one A4 sheet b/c the hacking instructions on the manual is wrong. Make sure you check for that seperate instruction sheet when you purchase one.
