RE: DVD forums hacked!!!!!!!!!!
what can that possibly achieve?. all it can do is deprive everyone of a valuable method of obtaining help with a problem that would otherwise go unsolved.

Darn it - you`ve rumbled me Dukey.
Okay folks, anyone who`s been to the Area 450 website needs to check the back of their neck : you should find a little implant there.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (in an evil stylee...)
The DVD Forums use the Ultimate Bulletin Board system, the advantage of this system is it`s widely used and very popular. Certainly the most respected forums software available. The disadvantage is it`s widely used and very popular, and written in Perl so anyone can examine the source code and discover exploits. PHPNuke suffers from the same issues, although I think this is a much worse and buggier piece of software.
That said, it may not have been UBB at all which resulted in the forums being hacked. It could have been an insecure Linux install, easily guessed passwords, etc. Hard to say without asking the chaps that run it.
I won`t be niave enough as to say Reviewer could never be hacked, or even that I believe it`s difficult. That would be tempting fate rather too much. ;-)
