What About Smokers

Oor Wullie (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 8th April 2004, 11:38

Like the earlier non drinking thread, are there many non smokers in the group?

Both my parents smoked as did 2 brothers and various other members of the family. My self I have never tried it and hate the smell of the stuff. I don`t go to pubs or clubs as I don`t want to wake up in the morning stinking.

What used to make laugh though was this. I used to be a firefighter in the 70`s 80`s. Many a time after being in a smoky chocking atmosphere the smokers on the crew would take their breathing apparatus of and straight away light up. They should have just kept the face mask off.

I`ve never smoked either, never will.

I don`t see the point of it.

Same here. Never smoked, never will.
And I hate going into a pub for an hour and having to wash the clothes I wore because they stink.
Dublin have banned smoking in public haven`t they and I hear Liverpool are keeping a close eye on it. Fingers crossed.

Have smoked, but never seriously in the ancient past, I dont think I have smoked more than 10 in my life - Definately in the NS seats.

Never smoked (anything!).

Dont do pubs/clubs cos of smelling like an ashtray when you leave. Also tend to rush to get in front of a smoker while walking to work (then I slow down!), so I dont end up stinking like they do when I get to my office.

Like the drinking thread, I am also happy not to give any more tax to Gordon Brown.

Never smoked, never will.

My Mum smokes and it stinks, I hate it. My Dad is a reformed smoker and he`s the worst, any sign of smoke and he has to run a mile, now that he`s stopped he finds it disgusting.

Used to smoke about 10-15 a day. Just gave up one day and never looked back. No patches, no remedies, just quit :)

The way you feel once you`re over the cravings is superb, meals are actually very tasty rather than, `it smelt better than it looked`, my bank balance is better, i feel better, and i smell better. Now, whenever i`ve been to a pub, the smell on my clothes when i get home is disgusting.

A 10 a day habit has now become a £1000 per year saving :D

Ditto.

I just couldn`t imagine being under the control of such a substance, it`s bad enough I have to eat three times a day and drink fluids. It all just gets in the way of life! :)

I have tried a cigarette in my youth, but really didn`t like it; something that will never change. I absolutely detest the smell, and people who do smoke (and this may be a little conceited) always go down a mark in my books.

My flatmates girlfriend smokes, and although she only does it in his room (with the door closed) the smell still travels around the house. It angers me so much, and I can safely say I will never go out with a girl who smokes.

I also hate it when you go out, and at the end of the night you get home and all you can smell is smoke on your clothes. It kind of makes you realise then just how much of the stuff you inhale during a night out. The Goverment stopping smoking in public places is something that I won`t argue with.
