Who else here does their job well...beause it pays the bills (ie:NOT beacuase you enjoy it)?
Just wodering who else, on here, doesn`t actually "enjoy" what they do for a living.
I, basically, don`t like the job I`m in (I work in IT distribution by the way for one of the countrys last, fully English owned distributors by the way....one of our largest customers is DSG - Dixons Stores Group for those who don`t know) but cannot think of anything that I could start afresh that would pay my mortgage - let alone the rest of the bills inherent with "having a life" (by the way, I`m not hugely extravagent - I own a 32" Tosh TV, Tosh 520 player etc and am 28 years old with a wife and two cats - pretty normal I think).
I know that a lot of people will post their love for their job - good, I`d love some ideas :D :D - but I`d love to hear that I`m not alone :/

I hated my last job with a passion...so much so I ended up not doing anything which got me made redundant. Now I work for a different company doing much the same job, but loving it...go figure???
BTW, I think this should be in the General Forum
Erm...
....says it all really :/

Well, it could be worse, Rob! You`re better off than most people your age (relatively few 28-year-olds can afford to buy their own home these days) - and lots of lonely, single blokes would envy your married lifestyle. So I wouldn`t bring on the violins just yet. ;)
As for me, I really like my job - the work is enjoyable, I get on pretty well with everyone - but on the flip side, the pay isn`t brilliant and I can`t afford many of the luxuries that I would like. (Owning my own home, for example, is in the realms of fantasy at the moment!)
I`m not sure if I would tolerate a crappy job for more pay, though. My love life, and my social life outside work, are not much to write home about right now - so I probably need the job satisfaction a bit more than you do. Swings and roundabouts, as always.

I have just started a new part time job. I dont think i will like it long term but it is ok for now as it is new. I am only doing this job because it gets me out of the house for 16 hours a week and keeps me a bit more active than i would be.
The reason for this is because i look after our son full time as the wife brings in a decent wage, it would have been silly for her to give up her job.
The job i do is not the best in the world . I clean toilets in tescos . and the offices too.
5.30 - 8.00 in the morning. Its job but someone has to do it. :(

I work fot an IT dept in the NHS, and it`s soul destroying. I came from the private sector where things seemed to get done, try to change anything here and you get "Well we`ve always done it this way".
Unless it`s a government target nobody is interested, and even if it is a target it gets done in the minimum amount you can get away with in the last few weeks before the target deadline.
Thankfully I`m leaving tomorrow, to start as the ICT Manager in a school.

Prospective employers have been known to check details of FR, to get a idea of the prospective employee as well. :o

It works both ways of course - if you find out that your prospective boss was the school bully, you might not want to work for him after all. :)

To be fair, do your employers know you as `Hairyhaggler? ;)
I used to work for the home office, which was a decent, fulfilling job. But the funding for our project came to an end and the only lateral transfer i could get was to a crap posting. That conicided with the mrs getting a promotion to assistant editor for central news south. so we moved to oxford.
I now work for an evil multinational pharmaceutical company (you`ll be happy to know i dont work very hard. In fact im bringing the place down from the inside ;) ). I hate it, to be honest, but it pays the bills. Im always on the look out for something new and im considering trying to become an IT lecturer. Mainly because i like the sound of my own voice and know a lot about IT..........
