Page 1 of Can you help settle an argument?

Ok the argument i am having is with one of my friends. It goes like this he was saying that he had seen a forum or something where he had seen people arguing about if aliens from the movie alien and aliens and so on actually breathe. Now he says that they dont and after just watching aliens it certainly sounds like to me that the Queen is breathing but i dont know, so what is your opinion. Thank you

well, they certainly seem to exhale so i would assume they are breathing, tho not having watched the films for ages i`m not sure :D

I`m pretty sure in resurrection they can clearly be seen breathing (or at least you can see their `breath`) when they`re in the inspection pods. And yes, the Queen can definitely be heard breathing quite heavily in the `hatchery` scene in Aliens.

They might me able to hold their breath for long periods (Resurrection again) but for all we know about their biological make-up, they could even be amphibious

I THINK that it is generally assumed that aliens don`t breath or have digestive systems (as we would know it) - I remember hearing this someplace or another. The thing that backs this theory up is when we see the Aliens being exposed to the vacuum of space. In the first film, when the Alien is jettisoned from the craft, is tries to clamber back up towards the spaceshipt (before being finally proppelled away by the engines). In Aliens, the Queen survives being transported through space whilst clinging onto the outside of the DropShip. I assume that if they had some kind of breathing system, that the vacuum of space would kill them! So i guess this demonstrates that they don`t breath! But what the Queen is producing I do not know! Was that all a bit too deep? :-)
