After 5 and a half years in Hammersmith...

...my place of employment has moved to Canary Wharf. Dead posh and all that, but that could well be the problem. Even though I live in Lewisham, I`m not very familar with the place, so does anyone know of anywhere not too....er...poncy, which may be a good place to go after work? (Have plans to stop off at Greenwich on the way home of course, as there are nice pubs there, but I`m always willing to try somewhere new :-) ).

Have you thought about Covent Garden ? No. not the place where they "do" opera and such, but the one where there are supposed to be street theatres and so on.

Covent Garden? About the same distance away as Hammersmith...

Alan - I`ve had many a good night out in Greenwich. `The Cutty Sark` is a great place for a fine ale... Canary Wharf is a fab place...looks like a scene from Bladerunner at night. Not sure what`s around at night though --- other than scowling locals and incorrigable yuppies...a unique and incendiary combination... i`d sooner be in Canary Wharf than Hammersmith....

Our servers are in docklands, about 5 minutes walk from Canary Whalf, and I can honestly say in all the times I have ever been there the only thing of any remote interest is the McDonalds thats always bloody closed when I want something to eat.

I know Covent Garden well..but that`s not near CW unfortunately...Greenwich is lovely too, and I know the Cutty Sark and indeed the Trafalgar. Just wondering whether there were any decent pubs around CW..which aren`t `bars`..if you see what I mean :-).

*EDIT*...may well bump into you in McDonalds

So your servers are located away from the main Reviewer HQ...?

Loads of servers are located around Canary Wharf aren`t they?

I`m sure I read somewhere about a hell of a lot of ISPs locating web servers around that area.

Docklands yes. Telehouse Europe, amongst others, is there and is one of the biggest co-location providers around housing literally thousands of servers for various ISPs.

To be honest there`s not too much at canary wharf apart from poncy wine bars.

However, if you head down to the river, there are a few restaraunts and if you walk from there towards Limehouse there is a cool little bar which sells pints of Nastro (not something I see often). Also, Limehouse has a few nice pubs (proper pubs - not bars) on or near the river.
