Urban Myth - Hoax

Rassilon (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 4th December 2003, 18:02

I have a colleague that allegedly received one of these calls - However BT have stated differently about an email warning doing the rounds.

Basically it warns people to beware of a phone scam that could cost them £20 a minute "If 9 is pressed, this connects you to a premium line that bills in the region of £20 per minute. Once you dial 9 and connect, even if you disconnect immediately, the call will stay connected for a minimum of 5 minutes (£100)." etc etc etc.

BT say it is a hoax & impossible.

I got the e-mail over 3 weeks ago & decided to not to post as I suspected it was just a hoax, which El Reg & BT have just confirmed today thats all I am guilty off IMO, (aside from being fixated on a certain TV series).

The other thread relates to something similar, but is more a sales pitch.

I think that posting something that you know is a hoax is really rather silly. Because that means everyone else knows already its a hoax so makes you look stupid.....IMO.......lmao....OH....HOAX...........!! HA
