Is Reg1 really that much cheaper?

Broadly (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 22nd January 2001, 16:37

Hi All,
I just spent some time comparing prices using uk.kelkoo.com for UK prices and www.allabouttheprice.com for US prices, and I found that US prices are seldom more than £1 less. (5 - 10%)
Have I missed something essential, or are you guys actually going through the hassle of buying from the US just to save one or two punds?

Enlighten me, please!

/Rob

You should take a look at ebay, its an auction site but I have bought a lot of cheap dvds from there, i.e Independence day for £12!!! shanghai noon for £14 etc.. The only thing with that is youve got to win the auction OR take a look at dvdworlduksupplies, they do region frees and they are all £12.99

I bought Fight Club 2cd set from www.dvdboxoffice.com (canada) R1 for £15.79
High street price is £24.99 and www.play247.com (Jersey) is £17.99
I bought it from dvdboxoffice cause at the moment play247 seem to be taking a while getting orders through, and I also wanted to see what the service was like from dvdboxoffice.

Take a look at www.dvdupdate.com and their price comparison facility. They generally turn up the cheapest DVDs at dvdboxoffice in Ontario, Canada.

I reckon I`ve saved somnething like a hundred quid on the 60 or so DVDs I`ve bought from the States/Canada in comparison to what I would have paid when the disks finally came out over here.

Saving one or two quid on a single disk ain`t that important. Saving one or two quid on fifty disks paid for half my kids Christmas presents this year.

Oh, and don`t forget, the supposed `hassle` of buying from R1, huh?, is less hassle than trying to get down to the shops here. Frequently, the disk isn`t even in the shops in the UK yet, unless it`s a back catalog title.
