take a look at this ebay item.

The saddest thing is someone has actually bid, they must have more money than sense.

i can`t actually understand what you think is so crazy about someone putting in a bid of $7000 for a Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone First Edition. For a start, first editions of any book like this are worth a lot, and if it was in a auction house, it could well go for a lot more. It says, there are only 500 first editions. I`d say it is a good future investment myself. At that price it`s pretty cheap to be honest.

You do realise that you yourself are only adding to the "mania" by posting this ;-)

No, spending $7000 on a first-edition Shakespeare or Jane Austen would be a good future investment. This is decidedly risky, in my opinion.

Harry Potter may well turn out to be a passing fad. Will children still be reading J.K. Rowling`s books in 100 years` time, or will she (and her wizard boy) be completely forgotten by then? It`s too early to say, really.

If I ever want to sell any of my old children`s books, you`ll be the first to know ;-)

Seems to be paying over the odds - what on Ebay, never - see here.

I was offered a first edition of Viz and turned it down - now worth a few pennies.

Some idiot burnt their house down concocting a Harry Potter potion.

Wouldn`t it be nice if they could all try this?

I do remember that a first edition of this book sold at auction for £6000.00 which when compared to $7000.00 makes the ebay offer a possible good investment.
