4 X 4s Anyone threatened by them ?

Fitz (Elite) posted this on Friday, 27th June 2003, 11:38

Do any other drivers of smaller hatchbacks feel intimidated by these gas guzzling 4 X 4 monsters that seem to dominate these days ? I live in a very rural area and these things are everywhere. Can understand farmers having them. But the mums on the school run and the world and it`s mother have them and I always seem to end up parked next to one taking up all the room in the local Tesco. Not only that but most of them have "bull bars" which although not illegal are unnecessary appendages IMO.

Your right they are a f***ing pain, its not the intimidation factor but the fact that these people cant park the sodding vehicles, some cant ever drive properly and that really gets on my tits, when your on the road 6 days a week and 3000 miles later this is just another little annoyance!

Ill end my rant there!

I live directly opposite a Primary School in a reasonably well off area where many of the mothers drive Shoguns or the big Huge Nissans etc
I work from home and drop my daughter off in the morning even tho` she is old enough and sensible enough to cross the road herself - purely because from what I see I dont trust the idiots in charge of these beast vehicles.

I dont have a drive so my car is parked on the road outside my house and when I see these people trying to pass each or park near my car I am scared!

If that isnt bad enough I find that when it comes to giving way in the streets around my house a big 4x4 driver is less likely to give way and more likely to just put his/her foot down and force me to wait even though it is my right.

Government should put a sodding huge tax on these things with exemption for those who can prove they need one.

Nice sunny day windows wide open...then a Gas guzzler pulls in front. Diesel fumes from an engine the size of a lorry fills the air & thats your lot till it goes. Park in a supermarket etc then one pulls up next, no space to open door. Just two of the many problems with them. Ban them.

Have to agree with all of the above they are a menace, especially the school run brigade and fat exec brigade that have them. These things are supposed to be designed to go off road so why is it when you are behind one and the driver see`s a puddle they slow down to a snails pace to go through it? and when one is coming towards you and again they see a puddle they swerve out of the way of the puddle over to your side of the road, dont figure. Most of the drivers that own these also think they own the road, how many people have been tail gated by one of these on the motorway especially the fat exec brigade with their Vogue/Anniversary Range Rovers with blacked out windows?

Ban them ?
Nice idea but it`ll never happen. We live in a free society and people can buy what they like as long as it`s legal. The other thing is that the government makes too much on fuel tax to be able to put a ban on them. Never mind about the environmental damage caused by these monsters. Only thing to hope for I suppose is for a crippling tax to be put on at point of sale hopefully to limit sales of them but then pressure from the motor industry would probably make that a non starter. Anyway I`ve had my rant (for today at least). Nice to know I`m not alone on this issue. Was beginning to think I was getting paranoid or something.

They get me seriously hacked off as well.

The bit that really gets me is that these huge f**k off tanks usually contain one mother, a baby, a handbag and maybe a Sainsburys carrier bag. You could fit all of them into a Ford Fiesta and still have enough space left for a couple of hitch-hikers.

Yeah, I call them "w*nk tanks". Usually they are guilty of going too fast, driving like maniacs, etc....

But I`m not intimidated by them one bit. F*ck them if they think they have more right than a normal sized car. They should be more considerate because of the size of the vehicle.

Obviously, I`m stereotyping. There will be plenty of drivers that are very good behind the wheel of these w*nk tanks, but you only remember the bad cases.

I sympathise guys really I do... :)
I drive a f*****ing big people mover, I do the school run in it because it`s the only car I have.

I would love to have several cars, one to take Charlotte to childminder, one to take Tomas to school, one to commute to work in, a van to bring the 8 by 4s home from Wickes and another one to get all our camping gear in so we can go on holiday.

Fact is I don`t. I bought a big thirsty bugger that does the maximum we need, drive it as little as possible, as considerately as possible. And after dropping the kids off at childminder/school I bring it home and pootle to work on a scooter, thus saving the planet.

Oh, but I`m with you on the 4 wheel drive thing
