Just got my BMW serviced...

...only £525 for a full major service at a BMW dealer.

Clearly I`m taking it somewhere else for the bits that need fixing, since I don`t want to pay £800 for those (including £38 to change a bulb).

I hear Jaguar dealers charge something like £1,800 for theirs, is this true?

Heh, I was £195 from a BMW Specalist for my Inspection 2 service on my previous BMW 3 Series, now thats about as cheapas you get for the top service! Was well chuffed with that...only to trade the car I soon after for something smaller anyway! :)

Inspection prices aren`t too bad on BM`s, unless you`ve got an M3 (They quoted £80 odd just for replacement oil on my previous BM!!).

When you come to need any work doing they take the p*** though, it`s better to go to an independent garage.

£38 to change a bulb? That`s really quite amusing!

Grrrr. :)

Thing is I might sell it next year, and it has a full BMW dealer service history, so I can`t go to a specialist instead. :/

Independant specialists, as long as they are BMW certified, are fine for keeping the all important full "BMW Service History" tag. There`s a set bunch of checks and procedures they go through in the official services which most BMW Specialists will stick to anyway.

Six months ago I had to pay £270 for a service on my Smart car!!!

My Smart was taken to Mercedes Benz Nottingham ( Smart Nottingham ) for the servcie, I had a price list from Smart telling me the cost of a service, so didn`t bother to check with Smart Nottingham, as I thought they were all the same( how silly I was ).

After paying the over the top price for a SMALL service, I rang Smart to complain, whereby I was told that Smart Nottingham, are a Franchise of Smart, this means in effect that they are able to charge whatever they like for the service, and are not bound by the prices quoted from Smart head office.

If I had taken my car to Smart Birmingham, the service would have cost me £99

Never again!

On a moot point

Did anyone see Top Gear on Sunday night on BBC2 when Murray Walker was reviewing the McLaren F1 and said that the exhaust system alone would set you back a cool £50k

Isn`t that `cause it was gold plated or something. did you see them toasting the Nissan Sunny and the caravan with the Dragster Jet exhaust. I thought that was quyite funny.
