I just purchased the Alba DVD player and as rumoured it plays region 1 discs, no hack needed.The picture, sound and features are great, much better than the Phillips 710, Bush 2000 or 2002 which I had previously purchased than returned in a desperete search for a cheap, ready to go multiregion player. At only £149 from Argos this is a great buy, but there was only one left at my local store.

Not only that, chuck in a CD-r, and guess what - it plays. Even better put some MP3`s on that disc, and guess what - they get played. At £149.50, is this the best value DVD player in the country???

Only time will tell on the latter point. ;-)
Which brings to mind an idea I just had, whereby we have a standard set of troublesome discs and test them on every player we can get our hands on, then produce a compatibility table for easy reference.

Here`s one to be getting on with. Stuart Little(Region 1) will not play on ALBA 103 but will play on SAMSUNG 807
