First look - The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King
The first instalment, The Fellowship of The Ring, is awe-inspiring. The second instalment, The Two Towers, is not quite as good. The third instalment is reportedly the best, even according to the director himself, Peter Jackson.
With the story of Middle-earth being ripped apart by war and corruption, the third film should hopefully answer all questions and mix all the right elements of FOTR with all the right elements of TTT.
No doubt the series, which some may say is the best cinematic trilogy of all time, will want to go out with a bang, and the talent on board is perfectly sufficient to out-do the original (that says a lot), and make the middle chapter seem even better.
The battle is nearly over...

RE: First look - The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King
I would say that the second film is almost total war and hence is very dark, so I think the Director made a grand job of it, concidering he is stuck most of the time to the origional plot, ie, the book.
He managed to bring in a bit of humor via the dwarf to lighten the story just at the right moments, OK, genuine tolkein fans may have raised eyebrows at that, but its the Directors porogitive to make the film as entertaining as possible to a wide audience.
Overall, the three films are going to be epics, similar to the origional starwars films in the late 70`s
You can see the cast & crew has made a tremendous effort, putting their hearts into the roles.
The scenery, the special effects, the music, the acting, Yes, these films can only be described as wonderfull. I can`t wait to see the last one.

Funnily enough the "humourous dwarf" was the one thing in the second film that didn`t work for me (I loved the rest). When he started counting the number of orcs/whatever(?) he`d despatched it was really naff.

But he did that in the book ...

In my opinion Peter Jackson is a genius. He’s turned a fantastic book into truly great cinema. I was beginning to lose faith in this kind of filmmaking but Jackson has delivered. Both epic and grand in scale without losing sight of the human element that makes it tick, FOTR and TTT are what Episodes 1 and 2 should have been. I agree with the aforementioned that the LOTR trilogy will be regarded in the way the original Star Wars trilogy was - I love the original trilogy but think Lucas has tarnished it, first with the special editions and then with the inferior prequels.
In regard to the humour comment, I think it’s a fitting and non-irritating way of lightening up some pretty dark and intense moments for the slightly younger viewers without irking (most of) the older ones.
Role on ROTK - this trilogy could rule them all!

My problem with TTT was the deviations from the plot - Faramir and the way the Ents got motivated to join in.

who cares it was so boaring

I don`t remember seeing any boars in LOTR.
