Is is cheaper to buy DVDs online or if you are in the USA

I am planning a trip to New York next month and was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy a few films whilst I am over there rather than buying them online.

I am also planning on going to Canada for a couple of days, would it be cheaper to buy from there?

Any ideas

Yes! The prices for region 1 discs here will always have the delivery cost included in the price and what I have seen from Play are not any cheaper than DVD`s here. When importing you have to pay tax on orders over £18 so may be a good time to buy box sets if you want some.

Dont forget you still have a maimum allowance you can bring back before you have to pay tax!

I dont know which shops but the big names like HMV with be more than others so you may need to shop around. If you are staying with friends you could check the mail order firms and get it delivered to them in the US. I got some 501`s a bit cheaper by having then delivered to my sister in the US who bought them over when she came.

I have started ordering from dvdsoon and most discs work out under £10 so I wasnt sure if I could beat that price

Generally when I was over there last they were about £15-£17 for new releases. Not too brilliant really, certainly not cheaper than the internet.

I think online shops are cheapest, even with the delivery on.

Use a site like http://www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk/ to find the best prices in all regions as region 4 can be cheapest.

Dont forget delivery and that it may take a few weeks to get your DVD`s with some firms.

I went to New York back in dec and bought spiderman for $19 which worked out about £12.70 at the time. I also found that Tower Records were slightly cheaper than Virgin Megastore.

I always thought the DVD prices would be cheaper in the States, when I went to Florida the Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney where EXTORTIONATE! It was when the Die Hard Spec Eds where released, $31.99 each or $84.99 for the boxset! Emporors New Groove 2 dvd edition was $39.99! The only Bargain I did have was the JFK special Edition for $16.99 ( Two discs directors cut). I was absolutely gutted as I had BIG plans on boosting my collection! I also remember the Gameboy advance was $149.99. I guess I must have been paying for the convenience of having the Megastore IN Disney itself !

Just got my first DVD from USA, they charged me $11-40 for shipping.
The jiffy bag says AirMail and US postage is $6-40, feel a little ripped off.
The Dvd its self is $22, so at shipping chargages like this personal shopping should be cheaper.

Stevewxm,
Its a shame you hadn`t driven a few miles out of that whole Disney Money Trap, and found a Walmart ( my favourite store in America ;-) ) The prices would have been a lot more attractive ( and you could have died a happy man after trying the Chilli and crackers in the cafe )

Cheers P.
