SCANDAL! No Oscar nomination for Gollum...Discuss!
I can`t believe that Andy Serkis didn`t get a Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor As Gollum in LOTR:The Two Towers.
TTT will probably get Oscars in the craft sections but the film is worth a lot more than that.
I`d love to get the reactions from LOTR fans!

The entire success or failure of TTT depended on Gollum and the boy Serkis produced the goods big style. I was never sympathetic about Gollum from reading the books or listening to the Radio4 version (Gollum was voiced by the same person that did Pigsy on Monkey), but in the Smeagol/Gollum scene in TTT, he did seem like the sort of creature that was more to be pitied than scorned.
Serkis was at the very least as good as Robin Williams in Aladdin. Did he get nominated?

Nope, despite much hype at the time. Beauty and the Beast remains the only time the academy have embraced animation as true film making by nominating it for best picture. Otherwise, recognition has remained restricted to the niche categories. And now with the Best animated feature, it is likely to be even more marginalised. Still, good to see Spirited Away in there, even if it is better than some of the actual best picture nominees.
A damn shame the academy excluded Bloody Sunday. Oscars for Paul Greengrass and James Nesbit, anyone?

My thoughts echo those of Christopher Lee - He says the Academy just don`t go for fantasy films, even when they are based upon one of the most read books of all time.
Serkis should have definately got a look in at the Oscars. He also excels in the role of Martin Hannet (Joy Division and Happy Mondays` producer) in Michael Winterbottom`s film 24 Hour Party People, now on DVD. In this film also he is virtually unrecognisable (as he is when he plays Gollum) , but the acting talent is for all to see.
Roll on the extended cut of The Two Towers on DVD!!!

Before the nominations for the 74th Awards were released, I was convinced FOTR would sweep the board. When they did, I realised that (stupidly) they will instead shower ROTK with the `big` Oscars no doubt...so kicking up over a TTT misnomination is unfortunately going to happen. Serkis was definitely good - better than Paul Newman at least (although I felt that Road To Perdition deserved to be nominated, and win, the big awards) - but you never know, he could still get a nomination for ROTK.
