How`d you keep a list of your films ? (if you do)

Simon Bovey. (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 24th December 2000, 21:01

A non-technical question..

If you do - how does everyone keep a list of thier DVD`s ?
I`ve looked on various websites and there are a few programs for PDA`s - at the moment I use windows notepad and put them in order myself into a very bad looking chart.
Anyone know of some shareware / freeware or and good ideas ?
(p.s. I am not new to the forums and therefore will not post this in every section if it`s not replied to winith 30 seconds !)

Si, I think any spreadsheet program should do the job, eg Excel or 123.

Your headings could be title, year, director, actors or some such thing and then you can use the filter to narrow the fields down.

What the hell am I doing answering a question about spreadsheets at this time of nite - hang on, Santa`s coming, must switch off the lights...

I use DVD Profiler - it links to their online database.
You simply tap in the code on the DVD cover and it downloads the appropriate information including cover scans and short description.
A nice program and its freeware (a premium version is available).
You can get it from their website at > http://www.dvdprofiler.com
I quickly ditched my boring access database when I saw a review of this nice little app.

Alternatively buy every single DVD that comes out and use an online retailers pre-made database. Of course this is somewhat more expensive than the aforementioned suggestions. ;)

Was thinking of writing a little program where you scan the cover of your DVD`s instead of entering records?

anyone interested?

Just a simple app that acts like a splash screen, except you have a floating toolbar, which you use to call up traditional Database forms etc and scroll through your Scanned DVD images.

It would be a piece of p*** too as you wouldnt need to have loads of fields, you simply look at the backcover!

If I used opengl I could do a few tricks as well as allowing the user to zoomin?

What do you think clayts!

Also I could have "HITACHI 505 ROCKS" FLASH over the screen until you pay me 10 quid registration fee:P

Just kiddin about the last bit!
(or am i)

Big A4 sheet of paper with the film title written in crayon...I then sellotape it to the DVD cabinet. When I need to reference a film i scan the list.. cross reference the DVD cross reference code and retrieve from a big wooden drawer I have..When I have watched the film i put a big X next to it..Thus telling me how many times I have watched it......When deleting a DVD from my library i score throught the title with a big purple crayon. This enables me, at a glance, to see what I have and don`t have....

Anyone interested in using this method should send me £10.

Ta much

Joe.

p.s. Slighty p***ed and bored. Just finished watching `perfect Storm` what a load `aw kak!
