CD-R media - where from ?

Brian Elliott (Reviewer) posted this on Thursday, 25th July 2002, 08:32

Hey guys,

I need to buy a batch of blank digital audio CD-Rs, and I`m not having too much success in finding a good retailer. I`ve checked Beyond Hifi, and whilst their stock is admirable, their shipping charges aren`t, and it would end up costing me more than £1 per disc to buy from them.

Anyone any ideas about where to get good discs ?

Thanks,

Brian

Try SVP (http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk) - they sell Verbatim "consumer audio" CD-Rs for 69p inc VAT. The shipping charges aren`t too bad either, provided you intend to order a reasonable quantity of discs (25 or more).

If you need to buy a smaller quantity, it may be worth checking your local branch of Poundland - they had JVC "consumer audio" CD-Rs at £1 each last time I looked.

I don`t know if this is any use as I have just got into "burning", Up here in`t grim North, Morrisons are doing a pack of 10 700MB disks for £5.99 and if you buy 2 packs you get the 3rd packet free. These are branded IMATION and seem to do the trick for me. Hope this helps you mate.:-)

I go along with the guy above re the Morrisons offer if you want CDR`s in a jewel case (and if you have a Morrisons nearby of course). If you want a spindle of CDR`s , Jungle.Com would seem to be a good bet - spindle of 100 available for £22.99 (p&p £2.99 per order under £100) so less than 26p per disc. Similar pricing per disc available for smaller quantities (50 or 25) at both Jungle and 7dayshop.com - both also have pretty good prices for CDR with jewel cases.
I think that you are really after CD Audio discs , but they are only really needed if you are going to write the CD`s on a standalone recorder rather than a PC CD burner. Using the discs above , I have merrily created many on my PC with few errors and then played them back on both my home CD and in-car CD with no problems. Think you can get problems with some older home CD players , but anything bought in the last 2-3 years should be ok for CDRs (not CDRW).

Thanks guys,

I am recording the CDs using a stand-alone recorder with my stereo system, so consumer audio CDs are a must. I might check out my local Lidl as there aren`t any Morrison`s nearby...
