PC, no shadow of a doubt in my mind.

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...
And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...
I`d love to click PC, I really would. I love my emulators dearly, and mostly they are better on XP than on my Linux. But truth is, I have nothing but bother when I try to play commercial games on Windows that I have totally given up on the idea.
I only have a handful of titles, but PES6 crashes constantly - starting with creeping delayed audio that eventually crashes. My Vice City suddenly doesn`t work as an XP program after years of being just fine. I have to select Windows98 compatibility now for it to work, but even then the audio is out of synch and crackly. And I also have Resident Evil 4, but it looks a bit naff on the PC, although thankfully it`s playable enough. I tried the patch, which improves the graphics no end, but unfortunately slows the game to a crawl. And game patches - gah! Finish the thing before releasing it.
I have other games too with various issues. Some I just got rid of because they were plain awful - Halo and Doom3 spring to mind. I suppose if you have a turbo nutter PC you might be OK, but I`ll certainly be passing on Vista, thankyouverymuch.
I like all the consoles, so I can`t really vote. The PC is best in theory, but the practice has proved a pain for me.
Mark pretty much hits the nail on the head.
gf Loves the Sims, but I like her playing GC version, she prefers PC version. PC version is "better" you can do more etc, but I don`t like the shouts of
"The PC has crashed again, what do I need to do again?" etc from her :(
She happy Animal Crossing, or Harvest Mooning at the mo at the mo on the GC, which is good, until she is in Woolworths or something, and will see a new Sims 2 add-on "we" don`t have yet. Then I`ll have to install that, and I`ll be kicked off the PC again ;)
i rarely play PC games, can`t be @rsed with updating drivers, Direct X, patches etc. i download lots of movies for games on the PC which look fun, and I diwnload teh od demo, and never get round to installing it. That`s another thing. PC games, you have to install them, that`s a pain. console, i just give her a box, and she knows what to do. PC I haev to install it, and the patches, and then the updates
games console wins, real plug n play, although I`m talking about real games consoles with no hard drives so the dev co has to get it right before releasing it ;)

PCs suck. You either burn money and suffer hassle, or you`re stuck playing Counter-Strike and Battlefield 2 for the rest of your life. And there`s still some who come out with "PCs are the ultimate gaming platform". Yeah right.
There`s very little to add to the `consoles FTW` arguement that my upstairs neighbour hasn`t covered. Well, maybe arse and back comfort; couch and big telly > gas lift chair and squinting at screen.
I picked other, but I`m just akward. I assume you mean of the current crop, and as a gaming platform, you can`t argue with the 360 at the moment. It`s got and will have cracking games, it`s got the online thing nailed, and off-white is prettier than sticky black.

Some of us happen to believe that`s true...

3 strategy games and an online FPS - lolz, did I mention if you wanna be a PC hardcore, you`ve gotta have specific tastes?!
"Damn you kids and your wealth of choice across the various platforms! I`ll have a plentitude of resource management any day!"
EDIT: Okay, I read X-Com, not X3, but the principle remains.
