Page 1 of Can you get PC Tomb Raider 4 & 5 to work on Windows XP ?

Just bought a Windows XP computer last month, and my son who`s a Tomb Raider game fan cannot get TR4 (the last revelation)or TR5 (cronicles) to work, it keeps coming up with a message saying `Tomb.exe error`.

Yet TR1, TR2 and TR3 work perfectly.

Does this meen TR4 and TR5 cannot be played on XP, or is there a fix, patch , etc ?

Help as my son`s going nuts, Thanks.

Nope. :-) Have you made sure you have the latest DirectX installed along with the latest video and sound drivers?

You know I went out and bought an Orchid Righteous 3D graphics card especially for the original Tomb Raider. And what a big improvement it made. :-) Cost me a packet if I remember correctly.

BTW If your son likes Tomb Raider he might like Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine. It was out a few years ago and was just as good as the best Tomb Raider games.

I know that Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness works on XP! :D

Er well no because I had all Full Price Tomb raider games and this is the only one I could get to work with XP! >:(

If u dont have the SOLD OUT budget makers of the game but have the FULL PRICE version that came out for windows 95/98 then it might be worth £4.99 of your cash buying SOLD OUT VERSION and trying it as the SOLD OUT SITE says it sould work and this shoul stop your son going NUTS ! :o

I know with The Black and White game & Creature Isle add on I couldnt get my Full price versions to work but the budget £4.99 works fine on Xp as it says it will on the box! :D
Quite a few of my other games didnt work when I got XP as they were made for windows 95/98 :(

I think the Sold Out ones are often repackaged in Installshield so that they have all the latest patches etc to work under later Windows.

So it may be worth installing the game, then finding all the patches, and install them, before trying to run it.

Hey Bandicoot, you can get patches to make Revelations work under XP. I used them the other month and they worked fine. Get them from:

and you`ll be staring at Lara`s arse in no time.

Thanks guys, SOLD OUT was the way to go. I had the origional disks which were produced before XP was even thought of.

So paid £4.99 each for TR4 and TR5, these lattest disks allow you to set the COMPATABILITY tag, to windows ME/XP.... Great !

My son and I can now see Lara Croft in all her glory :D
