Anyone getting/got a Nintendo DS?

chewie (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 9th February 2005, 19:38

Thinking about getting one of these. I like my GBA SP, and this would be a cool upgrade. I never had an N64, but one of my mates did and I played on it quite a bit. I actually preferred it to the PSone, but it was so fricking expensive (the games that is). Anyway, games I would like are Mario 64 and Mario Kart. I would still play the normal GBA Mario because those games are some of the best ever made and I never really tire of them.

I`d hope for Star Fox 64 (was it Lylat Wars in the UK?) and Rogue Squadron or some kind of Star Wars sim. I would have a look at some of the other games available too.

Does anyone know what games are coming out after the release or before the end of the year? I take it there will be a 3D FIFA 2006 game?

I wouldn`t want to waste the money if the machine won`t last long because I know the PSP is coming out soon (which looks amazing, but I have a PS2 and can`t see myself wanting to play those games on the move).

So what`s the verdict?

Had one since Nov with Mario, feel the magic and Warioware. Mario really good if not a pain to control (sadly most of the time) some of the new stars can be hard to find was missing last two for about a week. Feel the magic (project rub in europe) is the best game sega have done for ages its nice not seeing another sonic or old sega port. Warioware just as good as always my pick out of the three.

Starfox would be awesome still play that and Starwing to this day. Might be stepping on a few toes here but psp BIG waste of money sure its looks good but it begins and ends there.

Strange how someone with the loginid of megaman_x prefers the nintendo machine! I personally have a PSP and am waiting (any day now) for the delivery of my VIP UK Nintendo DS. I will then be able to comapre the two and offer my unbiased opinion. Having owned all of both manufacturers consoles I won`t immediately trash one because it wasn;t made by the other ;)

Sorry went to see "Creep" at the cinema last night and in need of a rant!

???? That`s the point I was making that Mega Man games are on nintendo consoles hence this person may be biased towards Nintendo - Trouble is if you examine it too closely it seems like a much more serious comment than was intended.

I got my VIP pack the other day and so far I quite enjoy playing the DS. Mario 64 can be controlled quite well as long as you use the thumb strap. The mini games in it are quite good, but I have not yet unlocked anymore yet. The demo of Wario Ware is good and I will be getting the full game at some point. Metroid seems to very promising and the control system works very well for the game making it fairly easy to play. I won`t be getting any more games forit until the UK launch so that I can concentrate on trying to complete Mario 64.

How does the thumbstrap work?

It is really a cross between a thumb strap and wrist strap. It is attatched to the top of the DS and goes under it when being used. With the other end you put your thumb in ajusting it to the size of your and a nub of plastic rests on your thumb. You can then use your thumb on the touch screen to control the games quite easily such as for Mario 64. It may sound a bit strange, but it does really work well once you actually use it.

Cool :D

Don`t know if I`ll have enough money to buy one, but should get one before the year is out.
