If you are worried about killing your Ps2 have a look at the swap magic disc , I have got one on an old ps1 and they work fine and will be getting one for the ps2 soon as there is no need to open the ps2 your warranty is not affected :) .

About 80 squid I hear.
Rather than getting it chipped and voiding the warranty, we got a Datel Action Replay ARv2 disk. It`s the business. As well as allowing you to play back up games, it also allows you to play DVDs from any region, and also has a lot of built in cheats for PS2 games, plus you can add any others you come across to the special memory card it comes with. It also has a memory manager feature where it will compress the data on your memory cards up to 10x letting you fit more on each card.
It`s like 3 products in one, they do actually do just the DVD Region disk on its own (or used to), but the ARv2 is much better value. Info here: :)

Although just looked on their site, and it seems to be a new product now called Action Replay Max. It seems to do the same things as before though. We got ours a fair bit cheaper than RRP at a computer fair (about £18 if I remember right). :)
Product page is here:

and video of what the AR Max can do is here:

does the swap magic disc enable you to play ANY<you know what i mean> play station 2 games
theres always issues somewhere along the line with these swap discs and flip top lids...games come out with high TOC sizes that wont work so u end up needing a new boot disc...
spend the extra money and buy a Messiah 2 or other non swap modchip and save yourself the hassle in the long run

Yep, you do need to swap them. You put the ARv2 in first, choose what you want to do, play a game with cheat codes, watch a different region DVD etc, then it asks you to put the disk in. No voiding your warranty like chipping though. :)
