Does anyone collect "Criterion" Dvd`s?

Gaz Kitch (Elite) posted this on Friday, 11th January 2002, 08:15

I have only 2 "Criterion" Dvd`s in my collection, these being "Robocop" and "The Rock", with a third dvd, "Spartacus" currently on order.

Are there any others that are worth taking a look at?

Is there any truth in the rumour that "Criterion" are going to release "Pulp Fiction"?

Depends whether you like any of the other films! Life of Brian is excellent, but you won`t be interested unless you`re a Python fan.

There are now over 150 Criterion titles, but you won`t be able to get hold of them all:-

The Pulp Fiction rumour is just a rumour at the moment.

The next Criterion title I will be picking up will be `The Game` by David Fincher starring Michael Douglas. Out in April in R1 and will double my Criterion collection to 2 alongside The Rock. Apparently Traffic may be coming soon (certainly WON`T be buying that) and rumours still persist of Face/Off coming as well (Please be true!!!).

Reports say BV doesn`t license films to Criterion anymore.

It`s been rumoured that BV were planning a Vista release of Pulp Fiction but it`s been put on hold.

Loads of good Kurosawa movies, as well as Hitchcock movies (if that`s your thing). New and old titles, something for most people, but can be pricey... :-(

i have 3 criterion and think thier the dogs private parts, them being The Rock, Robocop and Brazil.

Brazil has to be the best on features, it`s a 3 disk set cost me £35 and worth every penny.

i hope BV and Criterion sort thier sh*t out because i want a version of Pulp Fiction and Face/Off with top sound + Picture and EXTRAS! with the R1 + R2 of both are bare bones discs i`ll pay for them both....

I`ve checked on Criterion`s website ( http://www.criterionco.com ) and there seemingly is no mention of Fincher`s `Game`. So where did you hear about this?

Criterion is a DVD company which basically puts together the best DVDs on the market. They go to great lengths to search out for rare material and then put anything they can onto their discs. They also remaster every DVD they get to give great picture and sound. Unfortunately they do this at a price - but you get what you pay for. Also sometimes Criterion loses the rights to distribute some films so the titles then go O.O.P. (out of print) (like `Robocop` and `Silence of the Lambs`) and you will have to pay way over the odds to get these titles second hand.

BTW, the only Criterion disc I`ve got is `The Third Man`, which at £25 for just one disc isn`t the bargain of a lifetime!
