JP3 is probably the worst film I`ve seen in a while - it is certainly the weakest of the three films and not worth buying (in my opinion), weak story line and the film goes nowhere.

Pearl Harbor - a film you should have seen in the cinema but failing that a great addition to your DVD collection. I really enjoyed this film and is a lot better than many people have made out. Fact and Romantic fiction make it an enjoyable film.

Moulin - can`t comment as I haven`t seen it.

I pretty much agree with Warney,

JP3 is pretty dull - a couple of nice action sequences but nothing we haven`t seen before. It just peters out at the end and leaves you feeling kind of "so what..."

Pearl Harbor is good if you can cope with vomit-inducing cheesy schmaltz. The love triangle side of the story is totally OTT and unbelievable but the attack sequence is visually stunning. Worth seeing just for that alone.

Moulin Rouge is the type of film you`ll either love or hate. I personally love it - it`s a fantastically camp tragic musical love story. Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman are excellent (both at singing and acting) and the whole film is a visual feast with stunning set design, choreography and breakneck editing. I`ve had the Region 4 DVD for a few weeks now and there are heaps of extras on the second disc - well worth a look.

Hope this helps...

Doug.

Jurassic Park 3 was an ok movie. The plot wasnt all that but there are new dinosaurs that you must see like the spinosaurus and the pteradactyl. Good action and entertainment. A great popcorn flick.

Pearl Harbour. No real friendship built between josh and ben so u dont feel nothing. They dont milk the friendship bond enough. The Romance is also pretty much non existent. You dont feel nothing there either. The actual attack in the middle of the film is the only thing worth seeing. Great effects and you do feel like killing some japanese ppl.

Havent seen moulin rouge

Pearl Harbor - DONT even go there!, i`ve seen far fetched films but this one sure takes the mick.

I enjoy war films but i was very disapointed with this one, about the first two hours of it is a love story, after that bombs start getting dropped, then you get the two yanks who more or less destroy the Japanise airforce, um, yeah.

When i went to see it at Odeon me and me mate was the only ones in the auditorium, i wondered why, now i know!.

Fair enough, it has good special effects and sound but thats all its got going for it, for me anyway.

************SPOILER (added by Moderator, with eyes averted !)********

Does anyone else have a problem with the dodgy love triangle in Pearl Harbour? Everyone thinks bloke`s dead, best mate of said dead bloke gets off with dead best mate`s bird, dead mate comes back from the dead and finds out mate has made himself comfortable with his ex, mate of recently revived mate gets lass pregnant, gets killed and buried in garden of ex-dead mate who is now seeing girl and raising proper dead bloke`s child as his own? It`s utter s***. Really, don`t buy it. Moulin Rouge is meant to be great - I`m actually quite tempted even `tho I haven`t seen it, and Jurassic Park 3 just sucks ass.

As is pointed out above mind you, the attack sequence in Pearl Harbour is bloody impressive - but it`s not worth buying a DVD for 11 minutes of fun.

Stevie_B,

can you please put `Spoiler` at the top of your post if you are going to give any part of a film away please ? Believe it or not, there are people who may not have seen the film yet and do not want to know what you have just said until they watch the film.

DVD of the year - big, big Moulin Rouge ************spoiler **************

clayts (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 1st January 2002, 00:59

******************SPOILER**********************

For the last few years I have simply opted out of "New Year" celebrations (Happy New Humbug), spurred on by the ridiculous commercialisation of the flick-over from 1999 to 2000.

Tonite, I have mostly been indulging in "Moulin Rouge", cost £15 from those Easy geezers dahn under.

My word, what an absolute treat. I only bought it to impress a girl at work, who has seen it (count `em) FIVE times at the flicks. I said to her when she invited me for attempt number six "I don`t DO musicals" and "I don`t DO costume drama" and, most importantly, "I don`t DO soppy love stories."

Wrong.

I DO do musicals. I DO do costume drama. I most definitely DO do soppy love stories.

"Moulin Rouge" is the best film I have seen for a very, very long time. Leave your preconceptions at the front door, mister, because this is one wild buck-a-roo we`s a goin` on...

From Act 1 Scene 1 through to the bittersweet ending, this is a veritable romp through one of our greatest passions - lurve...., via jealousy, high camp, song, dance and plain crazy cinematography.

So here we are, end of the 19th century, and they`re doing a can-can version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - what the (beep) is going on here ?

The "falling in love" scenes are probably the most cataclysmic scenes I have ever witnessed : Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman totally singing their hearts out with Whitney Houston and Elton John providing the scripts and music - absolutely spell-binding stuff (and believe you me, I will look at this in the cold light of day and wonder how the hell I got so worked up about Whitney Houston and Elton John - you will too, honest !).

Here we have two actors that you could not possibly ever link to "musicals" singing their hearts out (and they both have excellent voices, McGregor`s warbling even got me all flustered !) to make the romanticising scenes stand out a mile from any common or garden "token love scene" that you get tagged onto the end of, well, every movie going really.

This film is an explosion of colour, illusion, fantasy, romance and superb choreography.

For an ardent cynic of anything even remotely "Vaudeville", this film turned my head and physically moved me (I don`t mean I was vomiting everywhere, I hate to admit it lads, I was in bits....).

Total entertainment.

Buy it.

End of.

Hey guys

If you enjoyed "Moulin Rouge", then fair play to you. But words can`t describe how ridiculously bad I found it, and with respect to the post preceding this one, this is the ultimate all singing, all dancing...chick flick.

And when its called a "musical", don`t think you`ll be watching "Grease". All you`ll get is Kidman, McGregor et al singing the worst possible versions of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Queen`s "The Show Must Go On".

Watch before you buy. :)

Well said clayts - I totally agree. If `Come What May` doesn`t bring a tear to the eye of any grown man then hell, call me Daisy and plant me in the nearest field....
