Page 1 of I am Legend : Review ish ;) No Spoilers

Just watched movie over xmas and boy am i gutted, typical hollywood butcher job, I love the Omega Man and the depth in that movie is sadly lacking here, wont say to much because im sure people will watch it, suffice to say the biggest ever december opening dropped to number two after 1 week showing the word of mouth did not help sales with Nicholas Cage sequel no 1 now, Smith did well but there was no feeling of him being alone, or going slowly mad at the thought of being the only man alive and other points I wont make as they r spoilers but made no sense to me at all, especially the weak weak weak ending which had me pulling my hair out. Shame because some ideas if they had been expanded on could have helped the movie and at 1 hour 35 or so seemed very crammed also.

The special effects for the Dark Seekers were appaling. Thought I was watching a video game

I hate to say it, but as soon as I heard `Smith` was involved I feared it would not be worth viewing.

He`s terrible (imho).I can see how you may or may not like someone but I`m not quite sure it`s as easy to think `he`s terrible`. Have you seen `Pursuit of Happyness`? He gives a great performance in that - as he does in this. People used to say similar things about Leonardo di Caprio - I think because they didn`t like him - but God has he put in some awesome performances over the past few years.
Anyway...... back to the film. I`ll honest and know nothing of the book so don`t know how it is different - other than knowing that this ending was just `wrong`. I also felt, quite unusually, that the film wasn`t long enough. There were some great set-piece tense scenes and I`d have likes a few more. His `relationship` with the dummies was great but I`d have likes more explanations as to why the city looked the way it did and why was he literally the only `normal` person there. Had he had ANY contact over the 3 years?
And, in spoilers please..... how is the ending different?

In the book if I remember correctly...

... the mutants/vampires are much more intelligent, they have their own society and Neville realises that HE is the bad guy, the boogie man to this new "civilisation", so allows them to kill him (eat him alive if I remember). So he is a Legend to the vampires in the book, hence the title. Now in the film he is a Legend to the surviving humans, which is why a lot of people don`t like the change.

Personally I`d like to see the original ending to the film before it was changed after screen tests!

tho i`ll also add that i thought will smith did a fine job, it`s just a shame they didn`t give him much to do, in comparison to what "should" have been the main storyline :/

I would have paid to see Arnie`s version of I Am Legend! ;)
