How can this be? Brand New HD format, the best opportunity to market BD with a DIE HARD 4 UNRATED set and the executives decide to release it as a PG 13 ONLY. Has the world gone made? No, Fox Home Entertainment has! Surely it must be the other way round - DIE HARD 4 UNRATED Yippie-Kai-Yay Mo Fo Version ONLY Available on BD!!!!

Nope, they`ve obviously done this to get as much sales as possible, without the limitations an age restriction would apply. This is Fox, after all..

The reason for the decision is that the uncut version was finished by the director only AFTER completing all the theatrical press junkets and promotional appearances for the film. Unfortunately, this was too late to complete compression and authoring for the Blu-ray version in time to meet street date. So the studio was basically faced with the choice of delaying the title or releasing the theatrical cut only day and date with the DVD. So that`s the reason it`s PG-13 only.

Blu-Ray authoring must obviously be a hell of a lot more complex than standard DVD authoring if they need so much more lead-time on preparing a title. Under the circumstances, it makes sense, although I`d suggest to Fox they did some kind of rebate for people who buy the Blu-Ray of the theatrical cut to get the director`s cut cheap.
