Star Trek - Director`s Editions?

Cerbera (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 11th November 2001, 21:31

Now that we`ve finally got the new Director`s Edition of Star Trek : The Moion Picture along with the improved sound/picture etc, does anyone know if the same treatment will be given to the rest of the films?

Are the existing DVD editions of the Star Trek films also with improved picture/sound (albeit without a special DVD or Director`s Edition) or are they ported copies of the VHS versions?

I think there`s supposed to be a Special edition of ST II The Wrath of Khan, sometime early next year.
Rumour also has it that Paramount, having released the movies in reverse order, will now re-release SE`s in the correct order, but I`ve seen no confirmation of it

Wrath of Khan is expected out next May/June. The remaining titles wil be released in theatrical order as Director`s Editions one per year. Expect Insurrection DE out in 2009 - place your order now!

Star Trek X, however, will be released as a DE once it is released originally not in 2010 (as it would appear if released in theatrical order for the other episodes).

Makes me laff when they have dates so far in the future. You never know what new technology may come along and make DVD obsolete, not that I think there will be one for a while.

The next two developments for the format should be the:

Disappearance of the double-disk sets as DVD doubles its capacity (possibly quadrupling the capacity - but more likely double or triple to keep boxsets profitable). There are DVDs on test that have 100 layers.

The shrinking of disks to 3" rather than the common 5". This has been developed mainly for home recording but they could be used for retail.
