Mission Impossible 3 DVD...

chewie (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 21st October 2006, 17:14

I watched this last night and then flicked through some of the extras. Never before have I seen such a w***-fest tribute to one person. It`s all about Cruise, like this was the last film he made or something. One of the biggest "everyone tells how everyone else did a great job" kind of DVDs. It`s sickening.

Don`t get me wrong, I actually rate Cruise as an actor (brilliant in Collateral) and JJ Abrams is a great rising talent. And M:I-3 is a blast to watch. And I don`t like to live in negativity, but who could sit through all the extras on this? I was only on disc 1, which has two tribute montages to Cruise. Disc 2 has another :/

Is it worth picking up, or should I leave it for bargain bucket time sometime in March?

Depends how much you like the film? Or if you haven`t seen it depends how much you like Alias (it really is Alias: The Movie style/structure/plot wise).

I wouldn`t pay more than a tenner for any DVD now, unless it`s a boxset or something special. No doubt the 1 disc will be in a 3 for £15 offer in January.

Hmm... have my doubts about Alias. Abrams seems to get his rocks off brutalising women. I think I`ll give it a miss until it hits the bargain buckets.

Total film this month has a free dvd which is the extras for MI3.

I suppose it should go straight in the bin then? :o

It was getting the TF disc that started me wondering. According to the magazine the stuff is exclusive to them and won`t be on the two-discer. It is, however, pretty repetitive and more ego-massaging for Mr Cruise.

MI:3 hit the bargain bucket today at Blockbuster and I picked it up with Ice Age 2 and Poseidon - three pictures I wasn`t going to spend my hard-earned on at full price.

I`ve had a look at MI:3 and first impression is I hate it. One word review? Blech!

Further comments edited out.

We`re gonna press on and we`re gonna have the hap-hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby
tapdanced with Danny ******* Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat, white ass down the
chimney tonight, he`s gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.

The most heartfelt wishes for the Season to all.
A Very Merry Christmas and a Superlative New Year.

I haven`t seen M:I 3, so I apologise if there`s a running gag where Kerri Russell has a bottle smashed over her head every 15 minutes to which I`m presently un-au fait with, but where does the idea that Abrams gets off brutalising women come from, particularly in regard to the first time you mention it - in the same breath as Alias?

On a related topic, Felicity was pretty brutal in a Dawson`s Creek with curls kinda way, but it was the fellas who felt the brunt of that one.

Answer is - He doesn't. Alias puts a female protagonist in a role normally associated with a male and doesn't change the rules to fit the gender. How many Mel Gibson films have we seen the hero tortured before escaping and then getting the upper hand? Does Richard Donner get accused of getting off brutalising men?

Mark, your comment is far more degrading to women than anything Mr Abrams has done.

I wondered if it had something to do with the Taipei teeth-pulling scene from the Alias pilot, which would be a grave misjudgement. Alias was one of the stellar examples of the pop-feminist fandango US TV loved so much in the late ninties.
