Just want to ask if there is any major disadvantages in buying region 3 dvd`s, i buy a few here and there, they are always a few quid cheaper than Region 1 or 2 so is there any difference in quality??

Cheers

Packaging is sometimes a bit iffy, and they occasionally have dodgy interlaced transfers and less extras than the region one stuff. However, if it`s a major release from a big studio you`re usually ok.

To add to what Chris said (and he`s right, in my view), make sure to check here to see what you can find out about the Region 3 release, before you buy it.

Some R3 transfers seem to be oversaturated with colour, at least in my experience.

Anyone else get a wet ripple effect on the case sleeves? Off the top of my head, both my R3s of The Phantom Menace and FFVII: Advent Children look like they`ve been soaked and put on a radiator to dry. :/

I`ve also found that there`s a lot of copyright tat on R3 discs that`s easily as irritating as FACT banging on about "you wouldn`t steal a..."

Although on the plus side they don`t usually suffer from the UPoP problems that afflict UK discs. I got the R3 release of Corpse Bride yesterday. Came in a s***ty Amaray clone, and the sleeve looks like it was printed on a cheap HP printer. Apart from that, it`s identical to the US R1 apart from the language options. Also ordered Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which was only a fiver, and has all the extras of the region one with decent packaging.

Of my R3 purchases, the following have been a bit pikey:

Shrek 2 (God knows why I bought it, but the sleeve looks like it was done on a home printer and it`s cut)
Corpse Bride (crap sleeve)
Hero (Chinese release is terrible, HK release is fine)
The Phantom Menace (cover is a bit crap)

On the plus side, the following are virtually indistinguishable from the R1 titles:

V for Vendetta
Hellboy
T3
Hero (the decent version)
Batman Begins
Fantastic Four
The Incredibles
House of Flying Daggers
The Last Samurai
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Spider-Man 2
Oldboy
Lady Vengeance
Walk the Line SE

Those are the `big studio name` titles I have on R3.
